Tell me all you know about 25-06, how accurate it is, is it a good deer round. Just anything you know. Thank You.

Don't know a whole lot about it, but here's what I do know. It is one of three .25 caliber rounds currently offered in factory chamberings, .257 Roberts and .257 Weatherby Mag being the other two. It is a very good round for deer sized game. You can load 120 grain bullets for deer and go down to the smaller stuff for coyote and such. I hunt with a couple ol boys who swear by them, and am considering one myself.

The 25-06 is as accurate as any other caliber, and shoots flatter then most.

The rifle it is chambered in may or may not be.

Inherited a Remington 700 in this caliber. Mine is very accurate with the two types of factory ammo I tried giving me less than MOA. Never shot a deer with it, but I've read that it is well regarded for that purpose.

i've busted a number of deer w/ mine. works well, but the 25-06 can be a velocity monster w/ light bullets (100 grains and under) and can result in very poor on-game performance w/ standard cup-and-core bullets, especially in impacts under 100 yards.

so, if you want to go light, use 'premium' bullets. if you are fine w/ 117/120 grain bullets, about anything will work.

it generates ligh-to-moderate recoil, shoots flat, and is as accurate as any hunting cartridge.

I'm just breaking in a Savage 116FCSS in 25-06 and so far I'm impressed with the cartridge. Shot two boxes yesterday in a t-shirt, recoil is irrelevant. Previous poster is correct, lighter loads are much tougher to manage than the 110-120's

It s my main deer gun topped with Leupold 3 x 9 x 40 . I was eyeing on a .270 but a good friend of mine recommended this caliber. All i can say it s screaming hot. Mine is handloaded with the 100 gr nosler BT and its fun seeing varmints explode on impact.

In theory I think the 25-06 is a great caliber. It's essentially the 30-06 cartridge necked down to fit a .257 caliber bullet. BUT I have shot 2 of them and have had very little success in finding a load that would shoot consistently. Maybe just bad luck, but I will stick with the 270

Bought a 25-06 Heavy Barrel back in the mid 90s found it was very finicky. Got it to shoot the 87 grain speer TNT bullet good and had moderate success with a couple different 100 grain bullets. Was expecting much better after owning and shooting more than a few accurate 270 Win.

About 5 years later a buddy bought a 25-06 also in a heavy barrel but a different brand of rifle. It was also very finicky he sold his within two years he got so frustrated with it.

Accuracy depends on the rifle. I've got a .257 Roberts that's killed probably 50 deer in its life. I've killed a couple dozen with it myself over the years. Was my grandpa's gun I inherited from him in the 60s. It shoots a 100 grain sierra at 3150 fps which is close to .25-06 factory stuff. There ain't a deer on this planet that it'll bounce off of, put it that way, and of the couple dozen I've shot only one wasn't DRT or within a few feet. I had one that went about 75 yards, 117 Hornady interlock didn't hit any bone and didn't open up. The game kings ALWAYS expand regardless of bone and I've only had one of 'em fail to penetrate, found it flatted under the skin on the off side after busting through a clavical, bouncing up into a vertebra and shattering it, and then back down through a rib. Shot was quartering toward me about 150 yards. This gun shoots 3/4 MOA, BTW. It's an old Remington 722.

I coulda bought my step dad's .25-06 cheap, Remington ADL and Redfield scope, 250 bucks. I actually won a BDL in a raffle at a gun show in .25-06. They're popular in Texas. I traded it for the M7 Stainless in .308 cause I already had a quarter bore and had the hots for this rifle and made the deal. It was a pretty gun and I'd have probably kept it, but I didn't need another quarter bore so close to my Roberts in ballistics. Had it been an 06 or .270, I'd probably still have it, but I love that little M7 and the .308 caliber.

I have a Browning A-Bolt in 25/06 and I have found it to be no more picky than than the 270 or the 243 or the 6 mm Rem I have(had). It does shoot 115- 120 gr. bullets better than some of the lighter ones. If I'm shooting for deer I'd rather stick with the 115-120 gr. anyway. The 25/06 with a 120 gr. is about as close to a 270 with a 130 gr.

.25/06 is an excellent deer, antelope and coyote gun. Too light for Elk, a little much for prairie dogs. Ammo availabilty on the rural store shelves is iffy, unlike .30/06 or .270
