This cartridge has peaked my interest lately... so does anyone here own one? Id love to know more! Im thinking on getting a zastava m85 mini mauser in 22 hornet and making a barrel for it.

Why??

You would be putting a larger and heavier bullet in a small case that doesn't have enough powder capacity to drive that larger bullet fast enough to do the job.

If you could get enough powder in to drive that .25 bullet as fast as the .22 bullet, you would likely run into an "over pressure" situation that would be risky at best, or possibly fatal.

No but I shoot 75 grain Berger BTSP in my 25-20 Winchester cal. Remington #2 Rolling block with it's Harry Pope Barrel :)

And 60gr bullets at 2300-2400fps seem adequate enough to me to kill coons or coyotes.

I remember an old gunzine article on a .25 Hornet revolver conversion. They had to shorten the case a bit, like the Harvey Kay-Chuk, to fit the cylinder; but it was still a fast little sixgun.

An even older article had a .264 Hornet revolver, and there is the .270 REN handgun metallic silhouette specialty round.

Old timey wildcats still work.

I have no idea why you'd want spend that much money/time/effort to upsize a round that is underpowered to start with and difficult to make accurate. And this comes from a guy that just bought a .22 Hornet

I'd at least get something that spaces on the neck, not the rim. I suspect that if you look thru Cartridges of the World you'll find something that already exists (such as the .25-20 already mentioned

Might want to look at the 270 REN it's a wildcat based on the Hornet necked up to 270 cal listed in "Cartridges of the World", you can get an idea of the performance that would be close to the 25 Hornet.

Where do you get a (non-antique) .25-20?
There are a fair number of modern Hornets around to have rebarrelled to .25 Hornet with no change to bolt face and magazine.

^ thats my thought... sure id love to have a 25-20 heck i even have some ammo somewhere in my junk piles... But i love to tinker and have the odd things that nobody else has.
