I am looking for a .257 barrel, for a small ring Mauser. The only ones that I have been seeing are Green Mountain, from Midway USA. Are there any others that have .257 as an option?

By the way, I don't want a huge bull barrel, and it would be beneficial if it wasn't $400 either.

I might go with the Green Mountain, just want options.

Douglas will turn, chamber, finish and install a barrel in your action... and that includes the price of the barrel. Give 'em a shout and see if they'll do your Mauser.

From the Douglas website:

"BARREL FITTING SERVICES

We will fit barrels to SUITABLE bolt actions.

Price for this service is $460.00 plus postage. We will Rockwell check your action and if found not suitable, advise you before starting work. We will supply you with a barrel of your choice of size from our standard shapes FWT through Benchrester. The barrel will be of our chrome moly air gaged, premium quality. Barrel will be fit, headspaced and proof tested in those calibers where proof cartridges are available. If proof cartridge is not available, we will fire a new factory cartridge or hand load assembled into new brass to maximum loads. Every effort will be made to assure highest quality material and workmanship. Barrels will be supplied in the white - NO BLUING. All barrels fit in our shop will be branded with caliber, G.R. DOUGLAS and XX premium grade stamp. Add $20.00 for .17 caliber. Stainless $68.00 extra.

Should your action require that the bolt face be opened to accept magnum head diameter cartridges, there will be an additional $25.00 charge. WE DO NOT INSTALL SIGHTS OR MAKE ALTERATIONS TO THE MAGAZINE to insure the cartridge feeding. This is your responsibility. Should you wish an old barrel to be duplicated, we can probably do this for you, depending on barrel shape wished. Price is $50.00 additional."

+1 on ITD custom guns
I've had 4-5 Mausers rebarrelled by those guys and all were good shooters. I take it you think Midway A&B barrels are inadequate. I have a nice little carbine with a light contour A&B that shoots much better than would be expected.

Mauser lover - by small ring do you mean the 93-95, or an actual small ring 98? For my 95, I installed a used Winchester Model 70 bbl, in .257 Roberts. Works and shoots great, no problems or issues.

So... A 93-95 Mauser will take the same barrel as a Winchester model 70?

I wasn't sure if a Midway barrel is going to be inadequate, just wanted to look at all the options.

No, not even close.

You have to cut the Win Model 70 threads off, re-thread it for a Sm. ring Mauser, and re-cut the short chamber to set the headspace.

Ah... nevermind. Unless the barrels are of such high quality, and low price for me to go to the work of re-threading. Which I doubt...

My apologies. I didn't mean to imply it was a switch-barrel operation. As usual, rc is right.
