ruger did me wrong a few years back , I vald never to own another .!!!!!!!! maybe savage can help me out or I might have to get one custom built!!

Savage doesn't make one but you can buy a after market one and change it out. I think that Midway carries sll the nesseccary stuff to do a barrel swap on a Savage.

The Rem 700 .243 is a short action. The 257 Roberts is based on the 7x57 Mauser case which is a long action round if I'm not confused.

Midway has the barrels for the Savage in 257 Roberts, just find a Stevens or Savage long action for the action. Piece of cake to change.

I've owned two. One was a No. 1 that I purchased new a few years back that was netoriously inaccurate. Verticle stringing as much as seven or eight inches. Bedding issues. I called Newport and they said to send it in. I was also told that their criteria for a No. 1 in this caliber was 1 3/4 groups at 50 yards. I guess I just expected more so I sold it. My other is an old 11 1/2 pound Ackley wit a Hart barrel on a 1917 Enfield. This had been built by J.W. Van Patten and just incredible. It seems to like anything I feed it. If I was looking for one today I'd pick up a used, Long Action Savage and have it rebarreled in the Ackley version. My 2 cents..........Essex

hm I always herd that the # 1 ws a good shooter , but thats just hear say. the prob I had with a ruger in 22hornet , was it vared 6-8" left to right . I mean it would shoot nutts on at 50 then 6-8" right at 100 , or the opposite if you started at 100, ruger told me it was the ammo ( doubtful ) but I tried many diff loads & brands , including my own handloads !! called them back and thay wouldent honor there gun and it was brand new!!! was told in so many words "ITS YOUR BABY NOW " so I will never own another . I want a 257 for my 11 year old to hunt with but dont wanna go used , sure wish remington would chamber it again !

Probly one reason there arent more manufacturers making the 257 Roberts is the case length is about halfway between 243 Win/308 and 270/30-06. Getting it done right with new action and barrel would be $3k + at New Ultra Light or Rifles Inc (You gota watch the +) and not much less at an independent smith's. For maybe lots less, you could look for a Spanish, Mexican or Venezuelan Mauser or Win 70 Featherweight in 7x57 Mauser and rebarrel.

Deerslayer, my local gun shop has a gun you might be interested in as it is .25 caliber and since you said you reload. It is a consignment gun-a Rem model 7 I believe. Looks almost unused-has a sling and scope. Price is $400. Caliber, however, is a .250 Savage Ackley improved and dies come with it! PM me if you are interested. (Location is se AR)
