27-2 value

Is it a 3 1/2 or 4 inch barrel? I can't tell, is it nickel or blue. I would guess between $800-$1200.

Nice!
Wish I could help, but all info I have is $500 I paid for a 19-5 4" nickel last year.

That's a nice revolver!

I thought that the 27-2 models had pinned barrels.

I always have more to learn.

Good luck with determining the value of this S&W.

They DO have pinned barrels....

You are right..Both of my 27-2's, and my 28-2 have pinned barrels??

May have something wrong with photo???

It looks like the cylinder is recessed. It's was probably made towards the end of the 27-2 run when they were switching to the 27-3.

I'd guess $800 to $1,000 if no box or accessories are included.

I’ve been watching and wanting a 3.5 or 4” 27-2 for a while now. Haven’t seen one for less than $1,000 unless it was pretty beaten up. It does look like a -2 to -3 transition model from about 1980/1982.

I had a nickel 27-2 with a 5" barrel that was about 95 percent. Nickel 27-2s are fairly rare, something like ten percent of the total manufactured, if I recall what SCSW stated. I sold it for $780 about a year ago through a consignment sale. I did not have the box or papers, though.

The 27-2s with shorter barrels sell for higher than the longer ones, so you have that going for you as well.

Are those the original grips? Mine were the larger coke bottle ones.

I sure thought the barrel ought to be pinned.

I could not read the number in the frame following 27 even using the 400 percent view button.

I freaked thinking this might be a -7 some one nickeled then noticed the lack of the custom center logo.

I do wonder if this is a blued -2 that got nickeled after it left the factory....perhaps the barrel pin got polished down to the frame and then plated over?

Did S&W drop the barrel pin and not change the frame model number?

Nice looking gun though. Makes me miss my old after market nickeled 28 Highway Patrolman some bad guy car ripper offer has now, though.

Great big shiny revolvers do get folks attention.

Howdy

According to SCSW the pinned barrel and recessed cylinder were eliminated with the 27-3 in 1982. Although it certainly would not be unheard of for something unusual, like an unpinned barrel to show up at the end of the 27-2 run.

What is the SN? Maybe I can estimate the date.

4", nickel.
Nickel guns do not always lend themselves well to pictures. Assuming the gun is tight and locks up well and the finish is not blemished I would go in the $800 to $1,000 range on a model 27-2.
My 27-2 Blue 6" is pinned and recessed #N49600x.

You can say that again. What looks like a big gash down the side of the cylinder is the reflection of the seal on the Coke machine beside it when I took the photo. The reflection of the face/ejector in the side of the frame is a better example.

It's N887xxx would have made it one of the later they quit at N932,999 in 1983 from what I have found and they quit the recessed cylinder and pin in 1982. Must have been a transition gun.

Based on the blued extractor star and the “N” stamped on the back of the cylinder, it is most definitely a factory nickel. There should also be an “N” stamped on the right side of the frame under the stock.
