I bought a S&W Model 27 from a sporting goods store where I worked in 1981. The gun looks like I bought it today. Not kidding. The 'gleam' is there, there is not a scratch anywhere (meaning absolutely 0) and there are none of the cylinder rotation scratches you usually see on preowned guns. 50 rounds fired, tops.

Any ideas on the value of a 30 year old 'mint' Model 27?

Thanks

Need more info on that gun.
What barrel length ?
What finish and do you still have any of the boxes and papers ?
That's still a 27-2 correct ?

Jeff is correct. Value will vary greatly depending on whether it is anything from a pre27 to a later dawn number. If it is a 3.5" it may fetch a substantial premium over other bbl lengths. Dave

You bought it new in '81?

My guess is that it's a 27-2? Just guessing of course.

If so, the barrel length will determine desirability and price. Longer barrel lengths don't seem to be in as much demand. 8 3/8 inch barrel maybe the least desirable.

6 inch barrel length still doesn't seem to sell as well.

5 inch is good. 4 inch just ok. 3 1/2 inch seems to be best.

Tell us which 27 it is and the barrel length. Does it have the original box, presentation case, papers and tools? All those add handily to value.
