Good evening all,
I have a MkII in 270 win. It groups pretty good at 100y with Win silver box 130g's (1-1.25"). I was thinkin that I might load up some 130g and see if I could tighten that up now that I put my Timney in. Any one have an accurate/pet load? Maybe even in H4895, since I have a bunch that I use for my 45-70....thanks

270 Win

Using Speer 130 grain HotCor, H4895 shoots OK, but it's the second best powder in my particular rifle (Remington 700). Each rifle shoots differently, so you might try yours to see how it shoots.

Best performance so far with those 130 grain bullets is IMR 4064, followed by H4895. Third best is IMR 3031. Followed by IMR 4831 and IMR 4350. As you see, it's not a matter of slow versus fast powder. It just seems to like some powders over others. 4064 is its favorite.

Imr 4350

Way back, I used to load 270 and 130g Hornady bullets. I seem to remember IMR 4350 powder. Not a real hot load, somewhere just above the mid range and the gun liked that.

Boy just what I wanted to read.

I just started working up a load using H4831sc. Guess now I'll have to try these other powders to find the best:banghead:

If you just started, complete what you're loading and see how your gun likes the load.

Every gun shoots differently -- even two consecutive guns identical off the same assembly line (one serial number digit apart).

H4895 is about as fast a powder as you will likely want to use in the 270, and I prefer H4831SC and R22 over most any other choice.
