I recently acquired a .270 win and was curious what your pet load may be? I have not set up to reload for it yet but have some ideas rolling around in my head.

This is my pet 270 Winchester load. IMR 8208 XBR meters VERY consistently; better than any other powder I've tried. Put that powder together with cheap Remington Core Lokts and you have a DRT deer load.

I've tried this in a dozen guns.

My go to load is 52-54gr of IMR-4350, CCI 200 primer and 130gr Speer HotCor. Normally, if the gun doesn't shoot a decent group with this, it needs some tuning.

52.2 gr of Ram Hunter under a 130 gr Hornady SST.

Ramshot Hunter is usually on the same shelf right next to the W-231. Been looking for a replacement powder.

I've loaded many different combination for .270 win, it's my over all favorite cartridge. My favorite hunting bullet is 130 gr. Hot Core, but for punching paper the Speer 130 gr. PSPBT is super.

IMR-4350
RL19
RL22
IMR-4831
H4831
IMR-7828
H-1000

Of those listed above, IMR-4350, RL19, RL22, H-4831. and IMR-7828 all delivered stellar performance. But in my experience the slower burners almost always deliver the best accuracy and velocities. Most slow burning powders perform at their best when worked up.

If I had to name on single powder as my favorite, it would be IMR-7828.

This is a very hot load it is over max charge from several published data sources. USE WITH CAUTION!!!

57.0gr IMR4831
Winchester Cases
130gr Nosler Accubond
Rem 9 1/2 primer
3.300COAL
3019fps 1/2 inch groups at 100yds (3 shots)

Tikka T3 Lite 22.43" barrel

H-4831 over 130 sierra game king. Consistently under 1" moa from Rem 700. Does game as well as paper. ;)

My Weatherby Accumark likes 60gr of VV N-560 over a 210m primer and a 130 NAB its a 24" 1 in 10. It will shoot 5 in a hole about the size of a dime.

Lot's of options out there.

Good luck and shoot straight

Bob

Best loads for my Savage 111 so far have been:

53 grains Hybrid 100V with Hornady 140 grain SST bullets. CCI primers, mostly federal cases. 5-shot 100 yard groups were between .78 and 1." 10 shots ranged from 2810 to 2850 fps. Used this load on bear, deer, and elk in 2013. All were essentially DRT with devastating exit wounds. Also used it in a silhouette match with targets out to 800 yards. Scored 29 out of 56 (my first match).

57.8 grains of IMR 7828 with 130 grain Sierra Game Kings. Remington magnum primers, mostly hornady cases. 4-shot groups were just under 1". Shot one elk with it this year. First shot was a high lung shot. Second shot was just behind the shoulder. Exit wound were about the size of a quarter.

The 7828/130grain game king loads had less felt recoil. The Hybrid/140 grain sst combo had pretty stout and sharp recoil.

Haven't done much other testing, except a little bit with IMR4064 (grouped ok, but seemed anemic). I'd love to have groups like Gemulkin's!

500 meters; 5 rounds

This from my Tikka T3 Lite out on the Metallic Silhouette range.

52 gr. IMR 4831, CCI200, Remington brass, 140 grain Berger VLD, 3.200" C.O.A.L.

It's not burning up the barrel getting there, but it knocks the rams down with authority. One shot kills on deer are the rule, too.
