I've noticed on my 29-2 the chamber fronts on the cylinder have a slight burn ring similar to a blast line on the top strap. At first it's not that noticeable until I cleaned the front of the cylinder. The blast line runs parallel around the chamber fronts about 1/64" from the chamber edge on the top. Don't know why I never noticed it before. All six holes are the same but it's only the top of the chamber front that has the burn ring. The top being when the chamber is at 12 o'oclock in line with the barrel.

Been using standard 240 gr. ammo and done nothing spectacular. It may have been like this when I bought it, but never noticed. Any ideas or suggestions?

Greeting's Rod My Friend-

Are we talk'in strictly of cylinder burn rings, around each charge hole of
the chamber? If so, this is a common occurence; and it can be removed
by using Blue Wonder Gun Cleaner on blued guns only; or Simichrome on
nickel or stainless handguns. Some say Flitz also works; but in my own
experience, Flitz requires too much elbow grease~! :uhoh: ;)

Ala Dan: Thanks for the reply, appreciated.

The burn ring around the front of the charge holes have a very slight groove to them. But only on the top portion. The cylinder to forcing cone gap is 6 thou. on each hole. The burn rings have a similar look to a blast line on underside of the top strap This one has almost no blast line at all.

The entrance to the forcing cone has a bevel to the entrance hole. I checked some of my other S&W revolvers and they don't have this. They are K frame 357's. Neither does my 38 spec. snubby.

The burn ring on the cyl. front seems to correspond with this forcing cone bevel.
