My Sig Pro came with standard Sig sights, that is, the regular front white dot and a rear white post. OK, but fair at best, by my experience, for basic SD and target shooting.

Well, I decided to order a set of Trijicon tritium night sights with the white outlines on them and have them replace the standard Sig sights.

What a major difference in the accuracy of my shooting with the new 3-dot sights! I was no flake with the dot-post Sig sights by any stretch, but I have found that I shoot significantly better at 50' and 75' with the new 3-dot sights given my middle-aged eyes

Why Sig still sells their guns with dot-post standard sights is a mystery to me. It seems to me that 3-dot sights are the norm just about everywhere else.

At anyrate, I'm glad to get my main HD gun back from the 'smith' and be even better than before with it. :D

I thought at least a few Sig lovers might dispute my critical thoughts on the standard contrast sights on Sigs.

Is there no one else in THR land that wants to weigh-in on this "burning" sight topic this morning?

All those posts and dots floating around are too busy and slow down your eye/brain. I prefer a bright front and a blacked out rear. For night sights so far perfection for me is Heinie Straight-8 Slant-pros. 2 dots to stack, no white outlines, really crisp daytime picture.

I too have both a sig 220, and a beretta 92 with the dot and post sights. I also have a G19 with the 3 dot setup. As far as I have found the military spec sights (dot and post) are supposed to allow better leading of moving targets and quicker sight alignment left to right, similar to the figure 8 dots on a trap gun. the 3 dot sights are for the fastest sight aquisition at close ranges. Normally for "formal" target practice I prefer no dots, just plain black with a front post that appears about 1/2 the width of the rear notch, for me this is the most precise with no dots to distract, sometimes I use a small peice of electrical tape over the dots. for combat drills and quick fire practice the dots help get you close enough for a COM hit in a hurry, but which dot system works for you and your shooting style is subjective, at least thats IMO.

The human eye can line up two vertical objects faster than three horizontal ones, so the "dot the i" sights on the SIGs (and the Beretta M9) are theoretically faster than and superior to the three-dot variant.

I like the Sig dot/bar sights best of all. The other combinations are ok, but I just line up that bar/dot combo a little quicker than the rest.

I just recently attended Tactical response, and I put the XS Big dots on the pistol I brought due to James always ranting about how good they are.

I will TOTALLY agree that at under 25 yards the Big dot's are superior.

However, when you move out to 50 they suffer from accuracy loss. (Head shots no longer possible, body shots not a problem.) James considers it an acceptable trade, I do not.
