I was not sure where to put this, so here goes.
I am looking for new sights for my M&P compact. I simply find the 3 dot system a little slow. So I am searching for a post and dot system.
I like the look and idea of the XS "regular" dot sights (big dots are too big), but I am wondering what else is out there.
It has been a while since I shot a Sig, but I remember really liking those sights...does anybody know who makes them?
The others I have considered are Heinie straight 8s.
Does anybody else have any suggestions?
Here is shot of the XS sights from Bowie Tactical webpage.

there's also

if you want unconventional yet quick sights.

I still find myself shooting the best with 3 dots, they are slower but more precise but with practice I'm about about the same all across the board (I shoot Glock goalie post style, SIG dot on bar style, Steyr Trapezoid Style, and traditional 3 dot)

readyme,
you are on the right track the xs sights are the best fighting sights on the market imho of course. i have been shooting/training along time, and i have found no other sights to be better. they are even better when you are shooting at moving targets, when you are moving and even more so when you are moving shooting at moving tragets. get them and don't look back.

Possum, you sound like a person "in the know"...now where can I find them for sale less than MSRP? Looks like they are about $90 or so.
Thanks for the info.

...take a look at the HexSite Sighting System. It is designed to let you verify the alignment of your sights while Mother Nature is telling you to focus on the threat and is very friendly to aging eyes, which have trouble focusing on the front sight. However, it can still be used with front-sight focus (eyes permitting), for precision shots.

The website gives the impression that it is only available for Glocks and that is currently true for the user-installed kit. At this time, other pistols have to be shipped for installation. Tim recently told me that he anticipates having kits available for user installation for SIG's and Springfield XD's in the first half of 2009.

(I have no financial interest in HexSite but feel that it is a useful option for many shooters.)

OK, I looked at the hex sight page, and their reasons night sights are bad are dead freakin' wrong.

1.

except in day light, night sights will always appear brighter than the target, thereby minimizing the light signature emanating from the target. If everything downrange appears darker than your sights, you have no manner in which to distinguish your target from a non-aggressor;

How is this system supposed to make it easier to distinguish the target from the sights? Night sights will not ALWAYS be brighter than the target. It isn't guaranteed that they will EVER be brighter than the target. Beware anyone who speaks in absolutes.

2.

the brightness of night sights draw your attention away from the target, even though your eyes can not focus on near objects such as the sights during a fight or flight response;

If this statement makes any sense at all, I can't discern it. The live targets I've shot at all held my attention just fine.

3.

night sights can reveal your position. Like a cigarette in the dark, night sights give your firearm the highest light value and thus make it and you an easy target;

What kind of night sights are YOU using? And if the BG can see the sights from behind you, you are already screwed.

4.

night sights increase mental tasking, and force the shooter to either bypass them completely in a rush to shoot or give the enemy a few seconds edge-wise;

I suppose if you call aiming thew weapon to be mental tasking, then yes. Night sights give you a more certain idea of the position of your sights and allow you to use them more accurately.

It sounds to me like they couldn't get a supplier for inserts for their own product, so instead they decided to bash them. I fail to see or imagine how these sights are more intuitive or easier to use than any others.
