3-Gun Shotgun

Hey guys, I am in the market for a 3-gun shotgun, and will *hopefully* be purchasing one here in the next two weeks.

My question is, which would you recommend, and why?

First is the Remington Versa Max Tactical. I held this gun at a local Gander Mountain and it felt like a very nice gun, comes stock with an extended magazine tube to put it at an 8+1 capacity, and has a fiber optic sight with a ribbed barrel (something I do like). An oversized bolt release and bolt handle are also stock.

Second is the FN SLP Mk. I. Again, it comes with an extended magazine tube, and being made by FNH, I would expect top notch quality. My only possible dislikes are the cantilever scope mount. It also does not come with an oversized bolt handle.

These are the only two shotguns that I am looking into at the moment. Please, no suggestions for a Mossberg, the 930 series has been too hit-and-miss, and their JM Pro series is just impossible to find. Also, the Benelli M2 "3 Gun" is just about $1,000 out of my price range.

Not many people are buying those... unless they're buying them as collector pieces. For that kind of money, you can get a full on Taran Tactical, C-Rums or Accurate Iron custom gun.
If you want an M2, which is arguably the most popular semiauto 3-gun shotgun there is, and do it on a entry level budget, just get a M2 Field #11026 or #11021 and put a Nordic tube on it. Shoot it for awhile, figure out if you need any other odds and ends like big bolt handles, moded lifter or radiused and polished loading port... and do that as you go.

You can do the same with the Versa Max. They are becoming quite popular, but there are fewer accessories and fewer 'smiths working on them.

I just found a Benelli M2 with the comfortech stock and 21" bbl.....just what I have been looking for...for just the right price, $1200

Yep... that's the #11026. Good you found one... they are very popular for 3-gun and sometimes hard to find. Get yourself a Nordic tube and you're ready to rock!

Thanks! Boy do I know they are hard to find. I only left them out of the poll because I could not find one in stock anywhere..... I definitely would not have even started this poll if I had found this gun earlier because it has been #1 on my list

Myself and 3 of my friends who got into three gun this year all have Winchester SX2's. They are identical in operation to the SLP(they are manufactured by FN in Belgium) and have a vent rib barrel. I got mine on gunbroker for $550. Some of my friends paid less.

have you considered a pump? They can be pretty fast...

Have you considered a Saiga-12? They ARE THE FASTEST!

A Saiga puts you into Open division and a pump will be a disadvantage, no matter how fast you think you can run it.

I have a few pumps, but even the fastest pumps will not keep up with someone who knows how to run a semi.

No, I haven't considered a Saiga. They put you into the open division, and still are not as fast as other open guns.

As it happens, I "found" the JM Pro Series 930 the day it got delivered to my LGS, and moved up from a 5+1 Winchester pump to the 8+1 Mossberg. Been using it in monthly competitions for four months now, and like it a lot. Specs are comparable to the 8+1 Remington VersaMax, so if that's what feels good to you, go for it.

I will go ahead and give everyone an update...

After finally deciding on a Benelli M2, I went into my local Academy looking for some 5.56 ammo. I walked past the shotgun rack and had to do a double-take....yep, there was a 24" JM Pro series shotgun in the very back of the rack

I was shocked that I had found one at Academy when my LGS couldn't even get an ETA on when they would get another one from their distributors! Long story short....I came home with a new shotgun.

I figured that if for some reason I don't like it, I will have no problems selling it. Win-win, right?
