So I finally got out to shoot the new Mossberg Rythym today and wanted to give a short review. My apologies but I haven't had time to get a good photo of it yet so you'll have to live with the one at the end.

First, what's included. The shotgun is the basic 930 receiver (gas operated)with several enhancements, the feed port is bevelled, it comes with an extended bolt handle, oversize bolt release, 28" ported barrel with fiber optic front sight, 3 choke tubes (and a special choke wrench that works with the extended tube), and a 12 round extended magazine tube with barrel clamp. Also included is a shorter spring, plastic plug and magazine cap to take it back to a 5 round gun (3 with the plug), that makes it usefull also as a hunting gun or for sporting clays for instance. The stock is a blue background with some random swirls on it, I'm up in the air about it but several ladies at the range though it was quite pretty. The finish on the barrel, mag tube and action is a matte black color and seems to be pretty evenly done. Total weight with the 12 round tube is supposed to be 8 1/4 pounds but I didn't actually weigh mine.

With the mag tube loaded to capacity it naturally gains some weight, 1/2 a box of shells loaded will do that. However in spite of the additional weight it points really well, although for me it was patterning about 4-6" high at 25 yards. I ran several mixed magazines through it with full monty buckshot, reduced recoil buckshot and cheap Federal 7 1/2 birdshot. Everything ran without a single malfunction of any type. Recoil, even when down to 2-3 rounds in the mag tube, is quite easily managed, the action feels very smooth and trigger is more than acceptable as is.

I think MSRP is around $800 on this gun, and running it through Davidsons Gallery of Guns several retailers in my area were offering it for $675 +- delivered. If you are looking for a shotgun for three gun shooting that can also do double duty this may be the gun for you, I rate this as one of the great bargains in the shotgun world. With the exception of the 28" barrel this gun has all the enhancements you would normally look for in a high level Three Gun shotgun.

The 930 is a great shotgun. Mine has become my go-to shotgun for just about everything. It is nice to see them making more variations, hopefully they will continue and come out with more competition geared models.

I was thinking about getting one of these for 3 gun myself since the 930 JM has become unobtanium..but the ported barrel will put you in open class. THAT is certainly a row I dont wanna hoe.

Very true Hacksaw, but about 75% of my 3 gun shooting is charity events where they don't care about the rules, everyone shoots the same class. On the other hand I believe it will use any 930 barrel, so it should be a pretty cheap switch out for a standard non-ported barrel from the hunting guns.

In my opinion it looks hideous and sounds like a tank to carry but if it fits, swings, and points well and the patterns are good it's good to go. Thanks for the review, I'd never heard of this model 'til I read your post!

Rhythm

Just took a look at the 930 Rhythm (1y, 2h's) at Mossberg's website.
Your review is a welcome addition to the basic info. Thanks and well done.
The fore end is shorter?? Is that so?
Pete

Thanks for this review! I really want one of the special edition 930s but I have a feeling I'm going to end up/have to end up cheaping out on just a plain jane 930 with the 28" barrel in question. I just gotta keep saving and keep reading to make sure it's the right gun for me. R eviews like this help a lot.
