In my adventures I have found that there is a mind set around the use of the word tactical. It ranges from useful to cool to um what are you thinking? I will share with you the 3 mind sets and give examples.

Tactical-practical. This is the person that sees a very good use for a piece of equipment that will get used and has good purpose. Items like tac rails under a gun for a light or a tactical sling that will allow the gun to drop in a ready position.

Tacticool. This person sees an item that has good function but it is more or less a luxury item. Also items based on high tech gadgetry. Stuff like ready mags for AR’s red dot optics reflex sights speed loaders for shot guns. You guys know just cool items that would be fun to have but not exactly necessary.

Tactifool. All I can say is Gecko 45 do an internet search. This person is commonly known as a mall ninja. This person keeps up on every aspect of assault gear and tac vests mag pouches ect. Where all of these items have purpose for somebody they are generally not needed for daily use for the tactifool. They buy these items in hopes that they will be needed one day to make them a national hero of some sort.

So there you have it I hope this helps folks figure out whom they are and who their friends are in the Tactical realm

I think that in the mind of some advertisers, they use the term "tactical" hoping that some segment of the market will be thinking "Almost Nuclear". You see this kind of hype in many ammo ads, and the like. You know, black clad, helmeted (Nazi shaped, naturally) with bloused britches, even sometimes emerging from the sea; and heavy use of black and orange in the background.
I keep expecting to see a Tactical energy drink.

The Old Fuff is pretty non-tactical, and therefore totally un-cool. He plans on keeping it that way too. :D
