Have been looking at 30-30 AI based wildcats for a custom Contender barrel. Looking at 25 or 22 caliber but, would appreciate any info on any caliber. :confused:Thanks in advance.

I think it depends on what purpose you want it to serve.

Varmints, hunting deer, etc.

The prime reason for the Ackley improved cartridges was slightly increased powder capacity, while still being able to shoot the parent cartride in them if necessary, or for fire-forming cases.

Since anything smaller then a 30-30 cannot be used with the parent 30-30 cartridge any longer, (IE: .22/30-30AE or .25/30-30AE) that opens up lots of other good rimmed wildcats.

rcmodel,

Is it illegal to have a cartridge like that any longer?

I like my 7-30 Waters Contender barrel. It is good for most anything here in Texas. If you are buying a custom barrel you can get anything you like just remember about all the other stuff you have to buy like dies, cases, etc. Also look at what work you have to do to make cases.

If you are many looking a the 30-30 AI base wildcats because of the rim. My I suggest some out side the BOX?"

25 Krag, 30-40 krag necked to 257 about the same as a 25-06

25/303 about the same as a 257 Roberts

6mm/30-30 improved equal to a 243 winchester
