I went to Wally World to buy some ammo for the 30-30. I had been using the Winchester 150 grain cartrdges that cost about 13 bucks a box. They also had the Remington ammo for about $13. This time I bought some Federal brand for only $9 a box. The cartridges look the same and are 150 grain as well. What gives? Is the Federal imported or less powerful? Anyone got info that would be beneficial to me on this?

I have 3 boxes of Federal PowerShok 30-30 in 170gr. soft point. It is a hunting round, not a plinker, (though that is what I plink with) and they are 9 something a box of 20.

The 150gr stuff costs the same. My Marlin groups the 170's much better.

PowerShok is their economy line of ammo, but it kills what it hits just as the more expensive Fusion does.

It currently is cheaper than Remmy fodder, which a couple years back went for around 7.95 a box. All of Remington ammo has gone up in price dramatically this past year. 50 rounds of 158gr .357mag sjhp ammo was around 21 bucks a pop. That same ammo now goes for over 30....

Some of that is shipping costs due to fuel prices being up I suppose. But then maybe the execs at Remington are due a bigger bonus this year too.. :neener: Sure are proud of their product.
