I have both, an SKS (polish) and Marlin 336 (30-30). Both are good weapons for their specific use. If I'm being shot at, the SKS has the advantage. If I want to hunt, the Marlin 336 is the basic go-to. If I have to "reach out and touch someone" I have a Springfield 1903-A3 in 3006 and a Stevens Mod 200 in 3006. As for hunting in Indiana, I have H&R's in 30-30 and 357 for deer (single shots). All are very accurate for the jobs that they are called on to do and I like them all. For those who put down the SKS, well in 4 tours in the University of Southeast Asia (Viet-Nam) I found out they can do the job very well, thank you, and they were very dependable. Not to put anyone down for their opinions, just my .o2cents. God Bless to all and theirs.

Between the SKS and my Win. 94, both kill deer but the 30-30 is a joy to handle and carry. The SKS is front heavy and clumsy and longer. Also the velocity is close but the 30-30 bullet is heavier, has more energy and also more accurate by quite a bit.

Classy Gun ..... I have a late 60's Winchester 94 Saddle Ring Carbine. Great goto gun on woods hunting for Whitetail. As far as the New ones with the Crossbolt Safety ..... Give me a break; to me it is a very safe gun with one chambered just pull the hammer back 1 click. Overall a wonderful gun.

Here is the 30-30 I have been talking about.
It's not new and shinny but it shoots extremely well.
This one has Ballard rifling so it shoots lead bullets just as well as jacketed bullets!
