Folks,
Yesterday I acquired a seldom used Ted Williams 30-30 from a buddy who has been the sole owner since new. Looking it over the action shows almost zero wear and regardless of the vintage I don't think it's "broken in". My only real issue is I have to use a really firm grip on the lever to disengage the trigger safety. (forgive me if the terminology is wrong). I don't have this issue with my Marlin 1894c at all.
If I so much as relax my grip I can not pull the trigger. Is there something I can do for this or does the action just need to worked for a while?
I know I certainly would not want to be able to fire the rifle out of battery and it sounds pretty redneck but the slightest bump of JB weld or solder on the lever would solve this.

Thanks

My 1894C was like that new.

I'd just work the lever a couple of hundred times, then see where you are.

Redneck engineering has its place. This ain't it.

Pull the stock off and clean & oil the workings inside the lower tang.

Probably full of 40 year old dried factory grease that isn't letting something move all the way.

Just take out the big rear tang screw and the stock will pull right off.

Sounds like your Ted Williams is actually a Winchester 94? If so the grip trigger stop safety will become unnoticeable once you get use to gripping the lever. It will break in also. If you have a gunsmith familiar with the 94 the trigger stop spring can be lightened so that it does not take as much pressure to deactivate the trigger stop.

Thanks all, as I look at this the lever doesn't reach the trigger block without a good squeeze. I can easily push the button in with my finger tip so my otions are it isn't broken in, is dirty, or something is sprung. I'll dig in but it won't be too deep, I don't have any drawings or a manual.

I sold my Win 94 because that problem drove me nuts. My Marlin doesn't do it. I tried also to figure out a way around it but couldn't.

thanks salvo,
I already see I need to re-install the plate for the side mount scope until I find the proper shorter screws.

That little lever is actually a safety. You must squeeze the lever to fire.
Once you fire it a couple times, you will get comfortable with it.
