30-30 Win accuracy

I have a Glenfield Model 30AS. Birch stock, half magazine.
It shoots just like that. H4895, RL15, IMR3031, BLC2, Win748. Doesn’t much seem to care. Bullets MUST be up to the job. It has a preference for Sierra’s and Noslers. I’ll have to break out some 8208 and some 150gr RN Ballistic SilverTips.

This thread has me thinking about the half magazine models with no accuracy-robbing barrel band. I know Winchester used to make the Model 1894 in a "button magazine" version with a magazine that ended at the fore end. Is it possible to cut down the mag tube on a more modern Model 94 and ditch the barrel band?

Edit to add: I guess not... I think there is a recess milled in the barrel where the barrel band attaches.

Somewhere I read about putting an o-ring on the Winchester band to help with accuracy, I've not done that but might after deer season. I've loaded some 170gr and 150gr for my 94 and they both shoot about the same.

joneb,
I'm working with the 168 gr. because of it's length.
My Herrett barrel has an exaggerated leade to it's chamber, and the bullets even seated far out still do not find rifling.
I'd like to work on a scenario of cartridge construction to compliment chamber and see how much accuracy can be obtained.
The Herrett cartridges don't receive a lot of load development attention from propellants not used prior. I will do careful ladder load testing using your recommendation and post my results later.
Obviously, bullet stability must be achieved to make this determination so I'm trying to reach a velocity that will offer this.
A flat base bullet may allow a tad more reach down the pipe.
joneb, I thank you sir.

Well we are wrestling two different animals, I wish you the best.
