30 T/C Cartridge and the T/C ICON

I've been watching the T/C Icon since it first came out. I think if you look at the overall popularity and sales numbers, the rifle might be close to being considered a flop. It definitely didn't catch on and become a rage like I think T/C was hoping. They pumped a lot of money into advertising and creating a bunch of hype. You don't see much anymore now. It's a shame because the Icon is a great looking little rifle. I think the main problem is the price point. I see them selling anywhere from $800-$875 new and they definitely don't look like they cost that much. They've got a flat blue finish and a matte finished stock. Based on looks alone, they're very similar to a Ruger, except they cost a lot more. For that kind of money, personally I'll stick with Brownings. But if they'd drop their price or start making the guns look more like a higher end rifle, I'd get one.

As for the .30 T/C, I think it's close to being a flop as well. However, it usually takes more time for a cartridge to become popular. So there still might be hope. I remember when you couldn't pick up a gun rag or watch an outdoor show without seeing something about the virtues of the .30 T/C. I sure don't see much of that anymore. Picking a new cartridge to rival the famous .30-06 was a poor decision in my opinion. The popularity of the 06 combined with its historical significance makes it something you don't want to try to outshine. Usually anytime I read something about the best every rifle calibers, the .30-06 is almost always number one. I'm sure the .30 T/C is a fine cartridge, I just don't know how long it will be around or how popular it will become.
