I don't know what made T/C think they could get yet another .30 cal round off the ground, but...

The T/C Icon is a very nice rifle, and now you can get the .30 T/C ones below cost.

Anyone know enough about the dimensions to know whether it's easily convertible with just a ream to say, .308 win? Will this "clean up" the chamber? Same bolt face and action length?

I don't see why you couldn't, as the .30 T/C is nothing but a shortened .308 Winchester. I, honestly, don't see the point in it.

But anyway, there should be no problem in reaming it out.

Could you get the .30 T/C reloading dies and reform a .308 into the .30 T/C?

From the looks of it, the .30 T/C is basically a shortened .308 with the shoulder pushed back...just an idea. Would save the costs of re-chambering, and the .30 T/C is supposed to be super accurate.

Just my .02,

IIRC, it's only the tiniest bit different from .300 Savage- which is pretty darn close to .308 Win, anyway.

As for rechambering a .30tc to .308, I am not sure I would spend the money. As mentioned before, you could just pick up a set of dies for the tc round, and convert all your .308 brass found at the range for it. Just an Idea.

Krochus, I had that very same idea. Seems like many of the Marlins chambered for that 308me are nice stainless/laminate combos. For $300 it would be a great grab.

Ok, I'll plead ignorance. What does that accomplish ?

You get to use readily avilible brass dies and reloading data. In a rifle that'll be cheap as heck because it's chambered in an obsolete/obscure round

308/307 or 358/356 are two sorta wildcat rounds that's a popular conversion for marlin 336'es

basically you use 307 data and bullets with 308win brass and dies

"Remember 308 marlin express is NOT the same as 308win"

Oooops. My Bad. Was thinking .308 Win.:eek:

Hey! That's pretty crafty thinking !

Afraid my creativity doesn't burn that bright. I'm still thinking about just putting a permanent plug in a 336C 30/30 so the tube holds only one and then loading with 150-gr. spitzers. If I can hunt with #1 I can certainly hunt with a 2-shot 336C. :)

I love how these companies that introduce a new rounds think it will something other than a flash in the pan. Look at all the 30 caliber magnums. There is onyl one that I know of that you can run down to any sporting goods store and buy. Sure I like wildcats I have an Encore pistol just about chambered for one (7mm BR) but they aren't ment for the masses. I mean how many different rounds do they need that do the same thing.

There's some relevant info in this thread at benchrest.com. Also check out the G&A article that's linked from there.

The rim diameter is the same as .308 Win. Case OAL is 1.920 vs 2.110, but the TC has a 30-degree shoulder and less taper, so it's not just a short .308 Win.

The T/C web site says the Icon "medium length action" is available in .243 and .308 in addition to .30 TC so there shouldn't be much trouble making .308 Win work in a rifle originally chambered for .30 TC.
