I was looking at the 6.5 and the 300 AAC. Both will work in an AR platform... Can you use the same mag for both or do you need to get new ones for the 6.5. From what I have found so far the 300 uses standard AR mags. Is the same true for the 6.5. So many choices. Just looking for some good vibes to help me spend my money! Any help is appreciated.:)

If you reload, I feel like the 300 AAC (Don't they all it the 300 BLK?) could be great if you already shoot .223, since they use the same brass. I've been incredibly intrigued by this round for many months now and really want to see how it could turn out! Plus, I'm pretty sure all it really needs is a barrel swap and you're good to go. The 6.5 never really got me that riled up due to the price. Ballistics-wise though, I think it would perform much better than the 300 at farther distances, since the 300 is being developed predominantly as a SBR/suppressed round.

+1 one the barrel swap... Although the 6.5 does have the juice down range.. Lots to thinl about.

The .300 BO is optimized for short barrels and only requires a barrel swap. It is primarily marketed as a 7.62x39 power cartridge that functions well in an AR platform. It excels in suppressed and/or SBR applications.

The 6.5 G is optimized for full rifle barreled applications, but some have shown success in carbine length options too. In addition to the new barrel, you will need different mags and a bolt, but all else is the same. It has a great reputation for long range accuracy from an AR platform.

What are you wanting the rifle for? That would determine the difference for me. I went with something in the middle to suit my needs.

If you plan on running a suppressor the 300 Whisper or the AAC copy would be my choice, if no can is planned I would consider the 6.5 if inexpensive mags are available.

I have a 300 BlK and am impressed with the round. Granted the only facory ammo right now is a 220 gr hp but even without a suppressor it doesn't make that much noise. I've made a boat load of brass and tried a few handloads and so far so good. The only modification I've made is an H2 buffer and a Wolff XP recoil spring,I like to find my brass in this county.
I've used 3 diferent types of mags,20 rd mil spec,30 rounders of various makes and some 10 rd plastic mags I got with my DPMS 223 and all have woked with no problems.
I would have like a 7.62x39 upper but have been told that the 7.62 won't work in the AR platform reliably and living in Ma limits me to 10 rd mags.

It should shoot the Hornady 300 Whisper ammo as well...at least AAC claims it will. The Hornady is available in the 208 gr A-Max and the 110 V-Max and is in online shops now. I just received 3 boxes of the 208 gr in the mail today.
