I'm starting a 300 blk pistol build and have narrowed my barrel selection down to a 10.5 Rainier Arms or a 11.3 Wilson Combat, both stainless and same price point. Any suggestions or ideas?

What are each barrels' rifling twists? Do you plan on shooting suppressed? If so, are you going to always shoot suppressed or just sometimes? If so, I'd go with the shorter barrel to shorten the overall length. And do you plan on shooting subs mostly or supersonic mostly? If you're shooting mostly subs you're going to want the faster twist and barrel length doesn't matter. But if you're shooting mostly supersonic you can get away with a slower twist and a longer barrel will be a small benefit in velocity.

Me, I would never buy a 300 Blackout barrel longer than 9". My AAC SDN-6 brings a 9" barrel to exactly 16". Subs are perfect out of a 9" barrel and supers work very well too.

They are both 1/8 twist, I plan on shooting both sub and hi vel but have no plans on a suppressor due to the federal govt. being so slow. I had some plans on hunting with it therefore the 10-11" barel. I know Wilson is considered excellent but was not sure about rainier arms quality.

Huh, at 10.5 or 11.3", it's going to be a SBR and still need the tax stamp. Are you planning on permanently pinning on a flash hider/ brake to make it 16"?

If not, might as well get both stamps and the suppressor.

I'm guessing since this is posted in the handgun section, that he/she is talking about a pistol where barrel length doesn't matter..

yeah, that and because he said he was building a pistol in his original post.

Why? The 300 Blackout was intended as a SBR round: It's a much more efficient round out of a short barrel than most rifle rounds. With subsonic ammo you don't get any advantage from a longer barrel, and with supersonic ammo you don't get much of an advantage with a 16" over a 12" barrel. Even with a 9" barrel supersonic ammo is still pretty good. And considering the 300 Blackout really is intended as a suppressed round, with a suppressor and a 16" barrel your rifle is just going to be too long.

I have a 300BLK Wilson Combat 16" and it's very accurate. I did have to drill the gas port out to .125" to get it to cycle with all my ammo. I'm shooting 165gr lead at 1450fps with 300MP and it cycles 100%. Highly recommend the WC barrel.
