Ok, do you have a practice load that prints to the same point, or will you be able to afford enough of these to build your skills with them?

That's not exactly helpful.
It was meant to be honest.
Sorry, I think any bullet much over 250gr is a waste of time for 45acp. But there are a variety of platforms for this cartridge so never say never ?

I just don't see how the extra 70 grains are going to help you any more than the first 230 would :p

I have shot 300gr bullets, but unfortunately what I have to say is probably not helpful at all, but 300gr is doable for sure.

I use Beartooth 300gr LFNGC (I know...not a JHP, but the profile is perfect for autoloaders) in the .45 Super (I know...not the same as .45 ACP) and from a 5" barrel can run them between 1100-1150 fps.

So there's my not very helpful post on 300gr bullets.

I think there are some legitimate "why" questions. "Just for fun" is a fine answer, and an honest, realistic one.

"This is good/important/beneficial for self-defense," might be worth deeper analysis.

Criticism is not necessarily an evil, nor something undertaken with bad intent. That would be ridicule. Criticism is merely thoughtful analysis of a theory, idea, or production.

That's fair, Sam. I just get tired of people thinking something's wrong with an idea just because it's a bit outside of what they understand to be 'normal'.

Case in point: Shooting at anything bigger than a coyote with an AR-type rifle is often seen as 'foolish' or 'stupid' or 'unethical'. And people often give advice that amounts to 'just use what everybody else is using', when people have been successful taking deer with AR's for decades. And, I see the same ignorance in comments like 'pissing in the wind' and 'extra weight won't help', in this thread. It just gets old...

Or, maybe I'm just getting cranky...:scrutiny:

Anyways, I'll keep any further comments to myself. Carry on.

FYI, I am not advocating for mega penetrating loads for home defense. I know 300 to 350gr, low psi and low fps ammo is already available for the 50gi, and I am just searching for the same thing in 45acp.

Yeah, your right, the negative comments can be a drag, but it is a public forum, so I take the bad to get to some good:D

Especially in a section like this, having devil advocates can insure that someone does not blow up something that is not suppose to blow up.;)

If Buchanan can get me the reloading infor for a 300gr.jfp, low pressure, 650fps 45 acp and can get cheaper practice ammo, I plan to shoot the round enough for correct muscle memory.

Any comments related to experience with heavy auto loading pistol rounds is helpful.

Thanks StrawHat, the article on heavyweight bullets from the 1980s was the kind of info I was looking for. See 3 page article below.

Note: Tried to insert this warning in post no. 1, but the editing option is not shown for that post. As P.G. Wrighter stated in his "Heavyweight Bullets" article in the previous post, I do not wish to facilitate an "idiot fringe load".:D
