DISCLAIMER!!!! THIS IS ONLY A FUN NOTION AND IS NOT TO BE TAKEN TOO SERIOUSLY. ANYONE WHO SAYS, ". . . SOLUTION WITHOUT A PROBLEM." OR ". . . RUIN THE .45 ACP." THIS IS JUST A FUN IDEA SO PLEASE TRY NOT TO TAKE OFFENSE.

.17 HMR from the .22 LR, .357 SIG from the .40 S&W, .400 Corbon from the .45 ACP. and the list goes on and on. Some of these rounds have proven to have a place in the world, some have gone the way of the dinosaur.

Nowadays we have two .50 caliber pistol cartridges (that I know of) in auto, the .50 GI and the .50AE. The thought crossed my mind, "I haven't seen either one of these necked down to .45 ACP yet.".

How do you guys think the .45 ACP would perform out of either of these larger calibers? You have a 230 gr. bullet being propelled out of either a 6 inch barrel (Desert Eagle) or a 4.5 inch barrel (Glock 37).

.50 AE load data suggests cartridges can be loaded with 32.5 grains of Hodgdon H110 powder to propel a 325 gr bullet 1431 ft/s. *

.50 GI load data is a bit hard to find so I could only find that a Alliant Herco can propel a 300 gr bullet at 875 ft/s.**

If I were a little less lazy I'd try calculate these ideas but instead I'll just play with the notion a bit and see what you guys think and come up with in terms of velocity, ft/lbs, practical applications, etc.

Could be worth the effort to neck the .50AE down, to .400 cal would be interesting, but IMO the .50GI is at its best pushing a big heavy bullet just fast enough to open up reliably.

Wildcats tend to be firearm specific.

The 440 Cor-Bon serves that purpose in the Desert Eagle pistol. It's the .50AE necked down to .429" to take advantage of .44 Mag bullet selection.

You can think of the .50GI as an answer to another question; what if it's not legal to own a .45ACP where I live? Well, I'll just keep the rim dimensions and go bigger.
