I recently got a Remington 700 300 win mag. I am looking for ideas for powder. I am currently shooting IMR7828 and it seems to be doing OK for me. I am shooting SMK 220 grain HPBT bullets.

I have read a lot about H4831 being a great powder for a 300 win mag and I was just curious if you guys think it would be a more accurate or better powder for a 220g SMK bullet.

Also if anyone has the Sierra handbook what do they recommend?

You don't have a Sierra manual? Go out a buy one. You should have the bullet manufacturer's manual and the powder manufacturer's manual.
IMR 7828 is excellent. You may also try H1000, Reloder 22, H4831, and Ramshot Magnum. There are lots of powders you can try:

I need to get the book I just hate to spend another $25 on a book when I already have the Lee handbook and Lyman book lol. I also don't have a store locally with them in stock.

4831 if you want to achieve the highest velocity maybe 2600 fps 65grs. to 72grs. if you can get it in the case: but you will pay the price at the other end of the rifle.
Personally, I would work a load up around 2200 to 2300 fps using 4320, 49 to 54 grs, 49 at 2200 is the best. I believe your accuracy will improve and its more comforable to handle. However what ever floats your boat. Be safe!!

4831 is a very popular powder for magnum calibers including the 300 Win Mag.
If you're new to reloading that caliber it's a good place to start. Just remember not to mix up the load data from IMR4831 and H4831, as with 4895 they are close but not identical and the load data isn't interchangeable.

h29zo99.jpg Muzzle velocity is about 2,850 fps.

By the way, I started reloading back in the 1960s and I've never owned a Sierra reloading manual.
