Hi all

I'm working with my tikka 300 WSM and am using RL22 as propellant. I tried 5 shots each at 100 yards with 67.o, 68.0, 69.0 and 70.o grains, because I swear 70 grains was listed as the max load on Alliant's website at one point in time.

The 5 shot group with 69 grains i could cover with a quarter, and the barrel was hot...so I am leaning toward that. Now the website says 73 grains is the max with a 165 grain slug...I use a 165 grain barnes TTSX and they listed Speer SP. The question I have is 69 grains almost filled my case, HOW could I fit 73 grains in the case?

Also, does anyone have favorite with RL 22 and the Barnes TTSX?

I don't currently load for any of the WSM cartridges, though I'm liking the thought.

As for compressed charges, some powders can be a challenge to squeeze into the case. At present I am working with a 6mm rem and RL22. It's a tight fit, but the load is proving to be a real winner. You actually might have better results with one of the powders that is specifically designed for those WSM cartridges. I can't think of any off the top of my head, cause I don't currently have one of those yet.

The data mentioned nothing about running the powder through a coffee grinder first so it will fit...:D

Don't think it is possible. The TTSX is longer than your conventional lead core bullets. That is one reason a lot of shooters drop down in weight with the all copper bullets. Unless you have the leade lenghtened in your chamber you have to adhere to factory specs for COAL.

Use a Long drop tube, pour the powder around the edge of the funnel and let is swirl in. This will help settle the rat turds.

Then seat the bullet and listen to the crunch, luv that sound. R-22 is an easy powder to compress. Check OAL after a few hours to make sure it did not grow. If it did, another trip through the seating die will take care of it.
