Looking for an accurate 300 yd coyote gun in 223.I have a cz 527 carbine,[18"bbl] now.Would I be better off getting a longer heavy cz in 223 or an AR for 300 yard coyote hunting.I haven't shot anything farther than 75 yards with the carbine but its a sub 1 inch at that distance. To shoot at a longer distance I would have to travel some.Would the cz carbine have enough power at 300 to drop a coyote or should I upgrade to a HB AR?

I go along with AW, for sure. My 77 Mk II light sporter is half-moa and does prairie dogs at 300, so I don't see how you'd have a problem on coyotes. Sure don't need heavy barrels for such infrequent shooting.

For deer and coyotes, the key is reliability that the first shot is consistent for hitting at the point of aim, not five-shot group size.

Your CZ will be just fine @ 300 yards. Just practice at that distance and get some idea of how long of a shot that is on a relatively small target.

Another piece of advice I can give you is this....Don't just shoot it off a bench. Getting it sighted in from a bench is fine but you need to practice from field positions too. I've not had very many 300 yard shots at anything besides prairie dogs. A sitting or prone 300 yard shot while hunting is a challenge.
