300 yard FAL accuracy

OK I looked a ruler just now and I want to backpeddle and say that an inch at 200 yards is what I think I can shoot. After looking at a LOT of info on that "F-class" shooting and some videos of guys shooting around 500 yards I am totally blown away by the EXPONENTIAL differences 200 and 500 yards makes!!!!! They were saying like 30 grams of powder could make the average shooter a FOOT off!
I almost wish I would have found this site before I ordered the FAL I think I might have bought one of those Savage F-Class rigs and some reloading equipment instead.
The range I just joined holds a lot of competitions and I'm going to start with that to see how I stack up. I'd love to meet any THR members if you are in the area and want to eventually get a shoot going there, as I said they have 300 yards, silhoutte range, shotgun range, pistol range, etc.
Thanks for the insights into this far range stuff, I learned more in the last 3 days than in the previous 30 years! All I can say is those F-Class shooters are frakkkking AWESOME!!!

Four shots into a centered 4 inch group on a 300yd steel pig

Rifle was a CAI built FAL, Hesse receiver, ARMS base, 4 MOA Aimpoint

Load was South African 7.62 R1M1 ball, I believe.

Sorry, the RO wouldn't let me bring the pig home for the photo shoot.

Here's Mr. Nasty:

I never shot at 300 yards but I assure you that I don't get my kicks trying to impress complete strangers with my boasts.

Then I don't see why you do it? Your claims of shooting prowess are obviously fantasy. If you shoot as well as you claim you should be a professional instructor or shooting champion and we would all know what an awesome shot you are.

In my experience those that are truly great at what they do never have to tell you how great they are at it.

litterally the only way thats possible is if you walk the 300 yards, take a bullet from the mag, and measure out 5 holes inside a half an inch and use the bullet to puncture the paper. That's the only way with any standard and above standard firearm.

Yeah I'm beginning to realize that 300 yards is a Looooooong way to make 5 holes hold hands : )

Lets make sure you understand something here. There are a lot of folks here, myself included, who have been around the shooting sports for a long time. In fact, I'm sure that there are some folks around here that have been competing for longer than you have been alive. You can be sure of one thing and that is they have seen virtually everything that is possible under the sun when it comes to shooting. Even if they haven't seen it or done it personally, you should know that those of us who take this sport seriously, have spent an aweful lot of time reading from a variety of sources about our pursuits. The reality is that it's fairly well established what IS and what IS NOT possible given certain criteria.
That being said, it IS possible to shoot a RANDOM 200 yard 1 inch, 5 shot group from a FAL or typical scoped 30-06 deer rifle. It is not, however, something that is repeatable or remotely consistent by any stretch of the imagination at that distance. Sorry, but the reality is that people spend a lot of money on a custom rig, with glass that usually costs a lot more than a typical deer rifle, to shoot 1 inch 200 yard groups with any consistency. 1/2 inch rifle at 100 yards from an off the rack Savage/Remington/Browning/whatever? Sure, you MIGHT get lucky and get a real ringer. Does that make it a 1 inch rifle at 200 yards? Nope. Can most people drive a true 1/2 moa rifle to it's limits at any distance? Nope. Printing tiny groups at 100 yards, or any distance at the limits of the guns potential, takes a skill that most will never achieve.
Please don't persist in debating something that isn't compatable with reality with people that know a lot more about this sport than you. Go join a club, shoot a lot, listen to what people tell you, and improve yourself.
