There is an ad on midwestguntrader.com for a used FAL-H rifle. The guy claims 1" groups at 200 yards (wow).

I googled "FAL-H" and got a bunch of unrelated people and items that either had "FAL" or "-H" in them. Googling "FAL-H Rifle" got me results. But, the results were along the lines of "Well it's made by Hesse and is therefor, crap". I've heard a lot about junk Hesse AR-15's, but looking for information on this rifle, the FAL-H, all I got was opinions based on what people have heard or from those who own the Hesse AR-15!

It's kind of hard to form an opinion or idea of a rifle's worth when the information your getting is based on another rifle from the same manufacturer.

So does anyone here own a FAL-H? What did you think of it? Owners that is. Just owners. No "Well Hesse's AR's sucked" opinions please.

Any FAL printing a .5 MOA group at 200 yards would be a once-in-a-blue-moon event. Maybe for a 3 shot group..if you fired twenty or thirty groups trying to get one "perfect" group.

A FAL-H is a term for a heavy-barrel FAL, like the L2A1, FALO, and Canadian C2. I've not seen any accuracy testing on them, but they might be capable of better results than a regular pattern FAL.

Edited to add - Depending on what it is, a heavy-barrel FAL can be worth quite a lot. Even if the accuracy claims are bogus, it would be worth checking the rifle out more closely.

Accuracy seems to be as much voodoo as science. Some guns that should shoot like tackdrivers will instead pattern like shotguns, and some shot-out old rattletraps will shoot cloverleafs at 100yds if you do your part, BUT that is not the way to bet. I would not doubt that a Hesse FAL could shoot 1 MOA, but the vast majority of them don't. Which do you think you have here? One of the 9,999 out of a 10,000 that are lucky to stay inside of 5 MOA, or the 1 in 10,000 that can actually shoot minute of angle?

I have not owned a Hesse. I know people who did. They all sold them. None of them shot worth a hoot. However, as was said, FAL-H doesn't necessarily mean its a Hesse.

Some good advice:

If Hesse is marked on it, or involved with it, avoid it.

Their record has for more misses than hits.

That goes for the other names of Hesse, to include Vulcan and others.

Well lets put it this way. I hit a 400 yard plate 5 times from 5 different positions while shooting my FAL at the last tactical rifle match, with iron sights. Yeah it took me 2 or 3 shots to hit each one. But I had a couple of one shot hits on it as well. So the FAL can shoot. My FAL is built on a Type 1 DSA receiver.

As far as a heavy barrel, if it is original it could be worth a good sum. If it is indeed a Hesse receiver, run like hell.

naw, don't buy it, i'm gonna be honest about the gun

My Friend Joe sold that Hesse 2 weeks ago for $800, it's a nice setup but he just wanted to get rid of the damn thing, apprantly the kid that bought it now is trying to pawn it off for $1100

1 at 200 yards? :banghead:

If anyone wants a closer look, I believe this is the ad in question:

It's a crap rifle with a crap scope, and the seller is lying about the accuracy unless he can prove it. Skip it. Inductive reasoning is pretty much valid here because every other product Hesse made was junk, and there's no special reason to expect their FALs are any different. If you have $1100 to drop on a FAL, I noticed there's a nice looking Imbel/Stg58 on the second page. That would be a much better purchase.

Ian,

Clearly you are wrong.

In the description, the seller comes out and clearly states that is, in fact, a "very nice scope." Its illuminated in both red AND green! Also note that the seller has not had a single feeding problem, and he's had SIXTY rounds through it! SIXTY! That's like THREE BOXES!!!111!!

:p

i've seen this particular Hesse at work, it will shoot, how accurate it will shoot is beyond me

oh, and the scope is far from crap, the kid who bought it just dosn't know what it is. It's a Belurussian 6x PSOP scope, weaver compactible

This is a great FN-FAL type rifle.
HARD hitting .308 Caliber

I received this from a from a friend.
I decided to take it to the farm just to see what I was dealing with...
I was surprised to see just how this BEAST handled!!!
THIS IS A ASSAULT RIFLE!!!
I put about 200 rounds through it at multiple targets.
Once I sighted in the target it shredded!
This is not for little chumps this is a hard core assault rifle.
For the Man that can handle this it commands respect...
To the man on the other end of it your F***ED...

I wish I was "Man" enough to own this "Beast" of a Hesse FAL. :D

Someone really needs to talk to this kid.

Sooooo, were all back to the "here's what I heard"?
hammerhead, you're not going to find many people who have owned Hesse FALs, or much of anything else by Hesse. Why? Because most people on THR were, like you, intelligent enough to do their own research before dropping close to a grand on a purchase, and they all came up with the same answer; they're crap. So, if you're expecting a lot of first hand range reports, you're probably not going to get them.

Intelligent people learn from their mistakes. Really intelligent people learn from the mistakes of others.
