I'm still a relative novice to reloading so I'm looking for advice from some seasoned reloaders. I've got a bunch of bullets pulled from 7.62x25 rounds, they measure out at .308 and 85 grains. The bullets I normally see advertised for .32 acp are .311 and 71 grains. That's also the only reloading info I can find for this round in my Sierra manual. The question is can I use these slightly smaller, heavier bullets and is the weight difference significant enough to be problem in a semi-auto handguns?

That's a little heavy for a blow back action 32 ACP and pressures can spike very fast with the powders they use, although the smaller bullet dia. would help. I'm reluctant to say go ahead because it could put a lot of stress on the action.
If you go ahead and test, I would use Unique powder. Are those FMJ bullets with an open lead filled base?

+1 to what NCsmitty said.

I also think you might run into case bulging problems with the longer bullet seated to correct length to function even though it is undersize.

The case web taper starts right below where the 71 grain bullet ends.

I also think you will be dealing with a powder charge in the 1.2 - 1.5 grain range, and velocity so low you will be able to outrun the bullets.

Good point rc, I did not consider that situation.

I cast my own bullets at 77gr and use 2gr of Unique for use in my 1907 Savage that I shoot only occasionally.

Well, you can always go to the Accurate web site and look up 85 grain data.

Published loads for both No2 and No5. One would surely expect it to be reliable.

Well thanks for the info, I guess I'll just stick to the factory ammo as I don't shoot the gun much and I don't want to take any chances and damage it. The gun I have is a Colt model 1903, made in 1915

By the way, welcome to the Forum, jl2695.

Of course, you can always send the bullets and the Colt to me. I will inspect them very carefully, load the cartridges safely, and shoot them for accuracy one by one. I'll take care of the Colt and make sure it shoots well. When I'm done, I'll send it back to you some day. Maybe.;)
