As for guns, New Ideas:
the same reputable neighbor who has the like new 2014 627 8 shot 5" also has a 329 PD Scandium/Titanium 44 w/ 4" brl for about same $.

I am essentially lookin for a solid great shooting revolver for occassional open or C carry and to satisfy my lust for sweet S&W steel and serve as trail gun and must be a reasonably capable "just for the hell of it" deer and/or hog hunter, with a barrel shorter than 6".
Thus, the 44 Mag enters the picture along w/ the 627.

Please note: I already have a 454/45 SRH 7.5" and a
S&W 386 357scandium XL Hunter 6"brl for hunting, and the Scandium 386 makes a nice light weight trail gun carry. Somehow, my gun lust still ain't satisfied
I am also considering the 44 S&W 629 V-Comp 4" and the 629 Stealth Hunter 7.5" but don't know where to find them or if i can afford them.
What does the compensator do on the V-Comp?

Also, a friend who is a master hunter said he has taken both deer and coyotees with his 357 SIG auto at up to 80yards! (I think it is the 357sig P229 or 226?) This gun seems to be an ideal compact carry/trail/and back-up hunting option. Could this be a realistic direction to go? How hard to find ammo? Where would I find one, and what would b a fair price?

Which of all of the above would be a better shooter and Hunting pistol (aside from the obvious Stealth Hunter)?

You already have plenty of heavy iron.
I have plenty of N-Frame Smiths, and a SIG in 357.
For me, the SIG is the no brainer carry choice.
OTOH, I don't have a 5" 627 but would sure like to have one, too.

I have the 329PD. Weather/clothing permitted, I conceal & carry the .44 with the .44 Special loads. I've hunted every year, (with the magnum loads of course), with this handgun since it's introduction and have brought home countless number of deer with it. I've never been skunked.... yet. The previous sentence is really the only reason I keep it in my 'line-up', preferring smaller revolvers, like the SP101 for carry. If the 'Obama hits the fan' I imagine the 329PD is what I'd have on me at any given moment. In "Smith's" hi-ride holster, it's easily an all day carry piece. Accuracy.? Mine is awesome. Even with a Hi-Viz front post. I did change the front site out once believing the Hi-Viz to be ugly, but went back to the Hi-Viz.

Hope this helps you.

If you can shoot a 329PD with consistent accuracy, it would be a worthy contender. I tried to master the weapon and gave up. I could be accurate, but not consistently so.
