I finally got a .338 BR rifle put together on a Rem 700 short action and it works great. First time I've ever had a hollywood quiet firearm....rifle or pistol. With 300 gr Sierra MatchKings its very quiet suppressed, a bit noisy unsuppressed and pretty accurate. I'm looking at some supersonic loads using 200gr Hornady SST's. I've seen guys claiming to get 2200fps out of 200gr bullets with this round but starting at 26gr of Benchmark I'm getting 1660fps with these bullets. I may be able to fit 29gr of this powder in the case without compressing. I don't think this will get me to 2000fps much less 2200. Anyone out there shoot this round or have any ideas on a direction and powder to go with. The round is based on the Remington 7mm Benchrest Case which is a shortened .308 case using a small rifle primer and thinner brass than would be found on the .308. They also made a 30 benchrest round which is where I got starting data for the 200gr bullet. Any help is appreciated.
