Ok. $350 for a milsurp rifle, and I do have a c&r. What should I get? I do have some mosins, a SKS, and ak's 47 and 74.

I was thinking of a K-31.. but JG is out of them. They do have the 1896 and 1911 swiss rifles though. Maybe a 1911 swiss?

This rifle needs serve no other role other than to entertain me, and be part of my collection.

Ideas? I have thought of a K98 too, maybe..

If you have a mil surp/C&R AK 47 and AK 74, I truly envy you
(the C&R original configuration would be select fire ;))

But I would say that the K98 and the K31 are both good rifles. I would probably go with the K31 though, just for the cool factor of having a REALLY nice straight pull rifle that is more accurate than your average Mil Surp. And it has a good trigger too!

An original Swiss '96 would be sweet...long and cool looking

I wouldnt pass up a Finnish Mosin Nagant in the M-39 or M-28/30 configuration.

All are xceedingly accurate, historical, and collectable.

Be lovely to add a mauser to the collection. K98, Yugo M48 or 24/47 can be found in that price range. Maybe a Swedish mauser as well. Beautiful guns.
Swiss K31 just a super rifle, Simpsons has a bunch:

If i were in your shoes I would get a k31. I hope to be in your shoes soon.

shoot man, i paid 595 for my service grade garand and the muzzle/throat erosion were both around 1, and the stock was brand new. it looks like a new rifle. i couldnt believe it, i was almost (almost) bummed out about the lack of gi wood or a few character building dings

eh, when i finally get around to buying a garand, i want a NICE one, which i'm figuring will be over $1k.

oh yes, you can get a "nice one" just a shade over half of that. these were less than $600 each

Never purchased from them but Empire Arms has a "44" K-31 for $350.00. http://www.empirearms.com/K31.htm

I personally would go for the 1911 if it is in good condition. I have 3 of the 1911's and they shoot just as well (if not better) than my K-31's.

For your $350 how about a VZ24 and some ammo.....A quick search on GunBroker and this came up.

Personally, I'd round up another $250-$300, be patient and a nice USGI - M1 Carbine will come your way. Great fun and does double duty as an excellent home defense/civil unrest rifle, with soft points and 30 or 15 rd. mags.

Postal Meter w/original Marlin barrel etc.....$600 w/USGI mags, sling & oiler.

If you find a Swiss M1911 for $350, jump on it.

Otherwise, I think you should look for a Swede or Spanish. Both great cartrdiges and fine rifles. I don't know if I'd have a harder time giving up the M93 or M96. I love small ring Mausers

Both the Swede Mausers and the Swiss straight-pulls will be excellent choices. 6.5x55 remains a popular chambering in many rifles, so ammo is available. Supplies of 7.5x55 are variable, but I think it will be around for a while. Both are great cartridges.
I have both a K31 and K11. Functionally identical, biggest differences are visual (most notably the shape of the magazine). I think you would be pleased with either.

96 Swede, M39, K31 would all be at the top of my list. SMLE possibly also. If you don't have any Mausers, you can get a 24/47 for $200-ish. M48's are more than that. You can get RC K98k for $350, I think. Haven't looked lately.

Gunsnammo.com has plenty to choose for a nice M 39. Thats what i would get.
