.357 Mag eco loads with Titegroup

Im reloading for a while now and want to develop more economic and soft plinking loads for my lever action rifle.

In the past i used to load 158gr FMJ with 11,2gr P 806 for good acuracy and handling. I know its hell expensive but i love the muzzle flash from my 686 with 125gr Bullet and 16gr P806

What do you think of 158gr FMJ and 5,2gr Titegroup?

Other recommendations ?

Hodgdon's starting load for a 158gr XTP is 5,4gr Titegroup.
I would bump it up to there or a bit more and give it a try. I love Titegroup for plinking loads.

I get good results all the way up to 6,0gr titegroup with 158 FMJ. Titegroup is great as long as you do not want 100% of Magnum's potential (need slow powder for that). I load a lot of Titegroup, it's good stuff.

I have found 5.8 gr of Titegroup to be adequate, and reasonably efficient light loads.

Will your rifle reliably cycle with .38 special? That's what I usually use for "economy loads" in my 357's.

Yep, but only the FMJ and they´re nearly at the same price as .357 Mag factory ammo.

I started using titegroup over a year ago cuz that's what the store had. I've found it meters well in both my RCBS Uniflow & my Lee Pro powder measures.

I've also found that accuracy is good in all my guns 38, 357, 45 Colt. And it's very economical because the charge weights are so low. But that does bring up the one negative. Please use extra care when developing loads with this powder as it's VERY difficult to detect a double charge.

In fact you could conceivably even triple charge. I think you'd notice that, but I hope you get my drift.

I love Titegroup in the .357 Magnum, but I go the slow route and charge 50 cases at a time in a loading block and inspect carefully.

It's just as easy to reload .38 as .357 and cheaper too! (At least a little bit cheaper since it uses less powder.) Try 158gr LRN bullets for plinking. Missouri Bullet Co sells them for $60 a thousand and offers discounts to THR members. Just search this forum for the ordering code.

Of course loading .357 to .38 special velocity is pretty easy with TG too.
