I had my fairly new to me 2.5 inch 686-6 out for the second time on Saturday evening. I brought along a box of 125gr XTPs loaded with 21.1gr of H-110 which has a reputation for creating a large muzzle flash. The reputation is well deserved. These are some screen captures from cell phone video, so quality isn't the best, but you get the idea!

thats on of the reasons I keep 158gr .38 special LSWC in my .357 for HD and most carry situations and reserve the .357 magnum loads for woods carry.

Gorgeous but blinding:D

Lol yeah those are pretty good fireballs. That short barrel really makes it light up. Heck, my 2 inch snub nose makes some fire with 2.5g of titewad and a 105 wadcutter lol. The same load has no muzzle to speak of from a 5 or 6 inch barrel.

My first handgun was a Taurus Model 66. I took it out one hot July afternoon with a partial box of ammunition my stepfather had found in his house (the one he lived in before marrying my mom, and that he still owned.) The box was labeled "Federal" something-or-other.

The fireball from the muzzle of the four-inch barrel, in the middle of the day, was still bigger than a beach ball when viewed as the shooter. My brother and I took a few turns with it, and it was just as impressive from the side. I don't know if those were reloads or factory ammo, and my stepfather could not remember himself.

I bought a lot of Magnum ammo after that, trying to find one that exhibited such a plume, but never did. I should have shot that thing at night.
