Everyone has their "go to" list for powders for a particular caliber/use and I'm trying to expand mine.

With these being the big 3 for lack of a better term for magnum loads in 357, and with the dearth of choices regularly available to us loaders, I'm trying to compile a list of other powders that fill the magnum velocity niche, and I was wondering if anyone would care to help me compile some?

edit, I should clarify - what I'm trying to put together is a list of true magnum velocity powder. I have a couple loads with hs-6 and blue dot. but I don't have anything in my stash for the more speedier loads. While velocity isn't everything - it's the CDO in me that wants to complete the table.

I like the accuracy I get from IMR 4227.
you need a full power load, with a good crimp to get it to burn clean however.

I hear unique gives good velocity, but I've never used it in 357 mag loads

I don't get hung up on calling a load magnum. I load hot ones and warm ones for different requirements.

My dad started me out in the '60s with IMR4227 and 700X for .357mag loads.

We (all) quickly learned to shy away from the latter since it was physically painful (ears) to shoot. The IMR4227, we liked ... it was LOUD but not painful. ;)

I haven't reloaded .38/357 in a long time since I only rarely shoot it and already have a old supply on-hand.

I have used Accurate #7 and #9 in a 2.75" and 4" barreled 357 mag. with very good results.

Accurate 4100/Ramshot Enforcer....same powder. A superb magnum handgun powder and can be downloaded with a standard primer with no ill effects. Virtually flashless too.

It's one notch slower burning than #9.

Power Pistol

I used to use Blue Dot until the warning against using it with 125 grain bullets. I switched to Power Pistol and never looked back. A bonus for those who like fireballs and a loud report it will not disappoint.:)

While any pistol powder will work in a 357 Magnum case the OP asked for a list of powders that will give true magnum velocities. Bullseye? Really?

Besides 2400 and H110/296 there is AA#9 and Enforcer/AA4100 (same powder), both from Western powders. Alliant's MP-300 looks very, very good too and doesn't require magnum priming, although there isn't much data for it yet outside of Alliant's and a few in Hornady's latest edition. IMR 4227 won't give you top velocity but it will get you very close with outstanding accuracy and it is temperature insensitive so what you get in the summer you will get in the winter. Lil Gun will match H110/296 speeds but it runs a lot hotter and you need to be careful shooting too many Lil Gun loads too fast. It has been known to eat up forcing cones . My favorite is VihtaVuori's N110. It is the ideal powder for high-end 357 Magnum. Top velocity and accuracy and the cleanest one as well. Also the most expensive and hardest to find .

Faster powders will give you usable ammo in 357 Magnum, and many of them will give you very good accurate loads with decent velocity, but they will not give you the top velocity you are asking about.
