This is a non specific/necessary gun. I just haven't purchased a pistol in some time and would like something new. I'll be shooting IDPA, new this year, and will be using my 9mm for now, so this new gun may also be used once I'm broken in to compete in the other class.

I have a chance to get a nice .357 sig Springfield XD from my little bro that's getting a .45 and wants to sell it to me to fund his new gun.

So should I get the XD, or shop around and potentially spend more for a .45. He's selling me his XD for $400 btw, which is a fair deal?

thoughts? What should I go with? I've shot both and like both. (yeah I know the obvious is BUY BOTH, but I can't. :) ) Ammo price difference? .357 sig seems to be as affordable to plink (Winchester white box). .45 stronger stopping power? Anything else I should consider?

I request the vast knowledge of this oracle called THR. :)

aka, money burning a hole in my pocket.

or should I get a new upper for my AR? bolt action .308? Sooo many guns, so little money. :-(

Ari,

I'm a huge fan of both.

Only drawback of the .357 is that the ammo is going to be more expensive to purchase (and sometimes that case neck makes it a little tough to reload if you are into that).

I like the "crisper" recoil of the .357 (vs. the "fatter" recoil of a .45 ACP - even in a 1911 platform).

Maybe it should boil down to this: which round can you shoot more accurately and comfortably?

hmm... rifle ammo cost more than handgun ammo , since you have a tight budget , it's best to stick with your 9mm + your new pistol and your AR-15. :)

If you plan on using the pistol for IDPA, I’d strongly suggest getting yourself a .45 ACP solely because of the cost of ammo. You should have something that will allow you to practice a lot. (or, stay with the 9mm. It’s the cheapest ammo available)

yeah, I was trying to shoehorn another reason to get a "bigger" caliber gun in there somehow. I'm a new guy to IDPA, so maybe not spread myself thin is good advise. But you guys know how it goes when it comes to "want". :) And I've been admiring my brothers .357 sig since he got it.

That's it, I'm buying more lotto tickets! lol
