Hi all, I'm going to buy a .357 sig, mainly because it's a caliber I don't have in the safe. I have several Glock's and most anything else you can think of except I don't have a SIG or HK.

What's your advice for a plinking, Bowling pin type pistol?

Thanks in advance.

Sig P226 or P229 (or is it P228?) would be some good ones for that caliber. i shot the .357 sig out of a Sig Pro 2022, and it was pretty fun to shoot. LOUD!!!!!! plus you already have the polymer framed pistol category covered, so why not diversify and go with the Sig? not knocking polymer, i am a glocker myself, just sayins all.

I have a sig 226 in .357sig. If you are going with a metal framed pistol I would highly suggest this one. If you go polymer I would really suggest a springfield xd 5 inch in this caliber. My best friend had one of these and it was an extremely accurate and low recoiling platform for this caliber. The 226 I have does have a fair amount of recoil which doesn't make for extremely fast follow up shots. For overall fun and shooting pleasure, I'd go with the XD in a 5 inch. I have glock 23 and a .357 barrel for it, but it is not my favorite to shoot in that caliber.

My HK usp compact sig is dead on accurate and a blast to shoot.I grab it first when I leave the house.

a few years ago the Pennsylvania Game Commission tested Glocks in different calibers and different sizes (before the introduction of the .45 GAP) and the the caliber that won out is the .357 Sig with the duty size, compact size, and subcompact framed guns (Models 31, 32, 33) being adopted for use; up until then the caliber they used was the .357 mag; full time staff were issued 6 shot S&W 686's w/ 4" barrels and voluntary deputies were allowed a few different manufacturers' models revolvers with 6 shot chambers with 4" barrels; other 'approved' models for off duty carry/concealed carry were allowed as long as the officers and deputies qualified with their weapons;

load of choice at the end was the Winchester Silvertip 145gr jhp in .357 mag; diring the transition from revolvers to semiautomatics the .357 Sig load they chose early on was Winchester Ranger-T 125gr jhp; last year they switched to the Speer Gold Dot 125gr jhp...not sure why they made the switch, but I know a deputy who is a local gun shop owner stated that overall satisfaction rating for the caliber and current load are very high; just wanted to share this since I thought it was interesting

I have a G32 in .357 sig. I load it with Hornady 147gr JHP/XTP. Muzzle Velocity is a very impressive 1225 FPS.

The Texas Department of Public Safety carries the .357 sig.

I've owned a Springfield XD in 357 Sig since they first introduced it. In fact, I'm told I had the first one in this state. This is an extremely good gun and caliber combination. Mine is a 4" Service Model, and I've probably put over 5,000 rounds through it without so much as a hiccup.

I like the caliber so much that I rechambered a 9x19 barrel for one of my Witnesses, just so I'd have a second handgun in 357 Sig. I use the barrel in a .40 S&W slide for the Witness.

The caliber is a fun one, since it shoots so flat. I believe you'll like it.

Hope this helps.

Fred

I'm sure there are plenty of good choices chambered in 357 sig. I'll vouch for the Sig P229. Mine is a 9mm but my friend who is in the Secret service has the .357 sig. In either caliber they are fun, accurate, well made pistols.

What pistols do you have in .40 S&W? All you may need to do is change out the barrel, like on a SIG P226, P229. Cost is around $180, like having 2 pistols but same magazine, frame and slide, only the ammunition and barrel are different. That and the smile on your face, when you shoot 10 shot groups under 1 inch.

FYI - Beretta recommends against converting a 96 to .357sig even though barrels are readily available. Too much pressure. Needless to say that bummed me out.

My wife said I can buy a new "toy" I can sneak a barrel in anytime. I have a glock 23 and have thought about buying a barrel for it, but hey I have a chance for a new toy right!:D

I'm going to look hard at the 226.

i've never fired a 357sig, but have been at the range with federal officers shooting this caliber. one thing i noticed (hard to miss) is it is much louder than 9mm or 45acp. the muzzle blast is greater as well. i'd hate to be on the recieving end of one.

SIG 226 was my choice, get both barrels and tritium night sights!
I wish CZ made a .357SIG...
Get the 226 you won't regret it...then get the SIG 556.
Everyone should own a model 1911, SIG 226 and a CZ PCR.

Once you shoot your .40 cal. with the barrel switched to 357sig you'll never switch it back.

I own a .357Sig in the Glock 33. It is my favorite pistol to shoot. Before the ammo shortage the .357Sig ammo was pricey and I went out and got the barrel for a Glock 27 which is a .40S&W. They swap easily and use the same mags. The .40S&W ammo was cheaper and easier to find but with the shortage the prices seemed to equal out and the only ammo I can find at Wally WOrld is now the .357Sig. Great little gun that is pure fun!
