I've been looking into getting myself a .357 single-action revolver. Naturally, I wanted the one that's laser-beam accurate, perfectly reliable, irresistably stylish and costs forty-seven cents, but when I couldn't find that gun, I thought I'd get some advice.

What's a good SA revolver out there, for under $600 (new or used) that I can enjoy shooting for years and years?

I love my old Ruger Blackhawk. It's accurate, fun to shoot, reliable (duh, it's a wheelie) purty 'nuff and mine was free, since I inherited it from my dad.

That and it's little Single Six sister were my first guns, and though my collection's grown since then, they're still my favorites, regardless of sentimental value.

Ruger Blackhawk. They've been around forever, and can be found used as I bought mine, but the new price isn't bad either.

I also like my Uberti Cattleman SAA clone, but prices have risen due to exchange rates. My matte finish model was $265 brand new a couple years ago. That's no longer the case.

Unless you really want a SAA, I'd get the Ruger. It's a stout revolver, lasts forever, and with its standard adjustable sights, it's hard to beat it as a shooter.

I too am looking for a SAA in .357. I have narrowed my search down to two.

Colt SAA Nickle, 4.75" .357
or
Uberti Cattleman Cody Nickle .45LC

I may get both. Why? Colt is a classic and I always liked "Bat Masterson", I believe he carried a 4" Uberti .45LC

yep, 50th Anniversary flattop Blackhawk for me. "Gunfighter" size, hell for stout, and very pretty for a modern sixgun. You can still get 'em for their 2005 price of $500 new too.

Blackhawk conversion. I have one in 45 acp/.45 long colt and another in .38/.357/9mm. Can't beat them for the $.

Just picked up a used Blackhawk convertible a couple weeks ago, 357/38/9mm . I've only shot a few other wheelguns over the years this is the first I chose to own. Sweet next to my .357 levergun. Next? Maybe a DA Smith.

Ruger New Vaquero - I'll recommend it every time. It was my first handgun and continues to be my favorite. Heavy enough to shoot as long as you want to without fatigue, light and streamlined enough to handle and carry very easily. Plus, in my option, much prettier than other revolvers with adjustable sights. It'll be as accurate as you are. To date, I've been able to get 4" groups with it at 25 yards and I see no reason why it should stop there if I continue to practice.

Much obliged for the speedy and useful feedback, Blackhawk looks to be the favorite, I'll check them out next time I'm at the shop. I was eyeballing the Vaquero last time. Handsome piece. Every time I stand in front of that case, I think about buying lottery tickets.

Remember that there are two flavors of Vaquero out there: the "old" Vaquero, on the Blackhawk frame, and the New Vaquero, which is close to the Cold SAA in size.

cdnn has the taurus gaucho, charles daly SAA clone, and the beretta stampede on sale. gaucho's $280, the CD's are $330 just to price some stuff cheap if you aren't sure you want to pay a lot.

I just picked this one up not long ago...click,click,click,click bang:)
