It sort of depends on what you want it for. Best all around? Between the posted ones I would go with the K frame.

That said I love the big N frame if I don't have to worry about concealing it. The K frame offers a lot of differant options. One that would be high on my short list would be a Mod 13 (or mod 65) with a 3" bbl.

Now open it up a bit and I would pick a 686 L frame, 4" barrel. Easy to conceal and able to make a fairly long shot. I might even look for one of the early 686+s. These have 7 shot instead of 6 (if I could get it with a 5" barrel that would be thing). But I would still want one with out the locking system and I would most likly send it out to have the trigger worked on a bit.

But thats just me

I got 4" M13 and a new 627. I reload now, & the bigger N frame with those rubber grips feels more comfortable to shoot with hot .357 loads than the factory magnas on the K frame. The K wants to jump out of my hand with magmum loads. I love shooting .38's out of both of them though. Do you really need to settle for one? Most gun shops do layaway.

I'm a "K" frame guy. I've never been able to warm up to either the "N" or the "J".
Isn't the S&W Mod 617 .22 LR 10 shot revolver on a K-frame?

What comparable frame is the Ruger SP-101 on?
S & W Mod. 66 is on what frame? K?

Keeping it simple,with everything you need.:scrutiny:Model 13.;)

Same with me. I love my model 13-2 4 inch. I also have a model 66-4 4 inch. The balance of the K frame magnums to me are the best. They fit my hands the best. The next closest revolver is a Ruger Police Service Six 4 inch.

"686 SSR. With the slab sided barrel I find it balances as well as, if not better than the Model 66 in my hand. Number two vote goes to the Model 66. I've owned a model 66 for the better part of the decade, but I am seriously considering trading it on the SSR."

At one time had both a 686 Mtn. Gun and a 66 4". The 686 weighed the same or 1/2 oz less per S&W specs and balance well for me with the light barrel and it carried an extra round. Also, both were tuned by a noted S&W gunsmith and the 686 had as light or a bit lighter trigger than the 66. Still have the 686. The cylinder is a bit larger in diameter and the gun a bit taller but trigger reach is the same as the K frame.

I vote none of the above. The L-Frame is the perfect match for the .357.
Not too big, not too small, not too light, not too heavy.
My 681 is my favorite .357. Everything you need, nothing you don't:

The 617 and 66 are both K frames. The SP-101 is a small frame Ruger available (or was available) in
.22LR, .32 H&R Mag, .327 Federal, 9x19mm Luger, .38 Special and .357 mag. It is a bit larger than
a J frame.

I like the SP-101 and the Mod. 66 perfect sizes for me. Fits hand well.

I own them all and like them all, but my -19 is just too sweet. My -28 is accurate but it's just too big for carrying. YMMV.

S&W

OH' Thats easy, the model 66' smith is the best,357mag combat revolver!!!!

I gotta say, 3" 686 (or 681) is just about the perfect balance for a full time .357.

Now as far as a carry gun that can shoot .357, K frames rule.

Nice to see the Model 13 mentioned Keyboard Commando.

That would be my pick also.

If you have the opportunity to buy a nice M66 for a good price, I would jump all over it.

I have owned J, K, L and N-framed S&Ws, but no longer own J or L frames.
For my money, the K is the perfect size for a 357. The only reason I own N-frames is that I like calibers that start with a .4...

It's strange here in that most people or the market place is catering to the auto pistol. The general population probably is following what police use the auto pistols. What's the latest hot commodity .40 CAL?
Here we are in the minority that still prefers revolvers. For me it is the simplicity of the revolver and reliablility that appears most attractive to me for over 30 years now plus these revolvers are well made as you can see alot of metal and quality work goes into them. Revolvers aren't ammo dependent like autos.

K frames are my favorite size 357 also...The L and N frames are on the heavy side when you carry all day..
