I prefer to use .357 brass for everything in my .357s, light loads are about .38 Special power, medium a bit more than .38 Special +P,
easier to just deal with one size case.

You can use shims but doing it all in .357 cases saves me from having to readjust my dies.

I'd do the same if I only had 357 Magnum revolvers. It is a viable system.

But, I shoot enough 38 Special revolvers so I need to load both. I gave up swapping dies around and just got a set for each 357 Magnum and 38 Special.
 
I don't own a .38 special revolver. My .357 magnums only see .357 brass. And I load across the whole spectrum from light .38 special to heavy .357 magnum, all in .357 magnum brass. Powders: Trail Boss, Unique, and 2400.
