What velocity do you all find is best for you in the 357 with xtreme 158 plated swc and mbc lswc 158 bh18. I tried different loads with cfe pistol, be86 and hs6 over the chrono yesterday. Velocity are as follows. P for plated l for lead. All with 4" ruger gp100.
8.6 hs6 968p, 1046l
9.2 hs6 993p, 1093l
6.0 cfe 707p, 930l
6.6 cfe 847p, 961l
7.6 be86 1035p, 1132l

interesting how plated slows the bullet down quite a bit (especially cfe). is "lcwc" supposed to be "lswc"?

i load my lead semi-wadcutters up to 1250 fps with either hs-6 (mag primer) or blue dot (non-mag primer). any further and i get lead in the barrel. can't comment on the plated bullets.

murf

p.s. this load is out of a 4.625" blackhawk.

I am running the X-Treme 158 Gr SWC at around 750 FPS out of .357 brass for a light plinker. It can be run harder, but that is accurate and fun. WST or Competition.

Forgot to note. Used mag primers with hs6.
With same mbc lswc and 14.5 2400 I am getting 1355 fps, haven't loaded any plated. I think I'll kick the hs6 up a bit for a stouter load and do some more playing with the cfe for lighter loads and check accuracy.

I think the various coated 158 Gr SWCs are a better choice for full blown .357 loads with 2400.

I use the plated X-Treme for mild loads only now. And heck, I am sure the coated ones would work there as well.

I use both bullets with unique 7.2 and runs around 1200 for mbc 158 gr swc. I use the same with extreme plated 158 gr swc but didn't chrono it anymore. In my gp 100 5 inch and older 6 inch., there a difference in accuracy with the xtreme being more accurate especially when shooting out to 50 yrds.

About post #3, I loaded some 158gr Xtreme plated FP with GM-200 and 7.5gr of HS-6 in a Ruger Security Six w/a 2.75" with very good results. These bullets were only moving at 800 FPS but the accuracy was very good.
