When reloading either a .357sig or a 9mm (9x19 Parabellum), can you use the exact same bullets (FMJ and JHP) for either reloading application, or do you have to use different bullets? Thanks for your help!

Yes and no.

Bullet dimeter is exactly the same.

But the .357 SIG has a very short case neck, and some, but not all 9mm bullet shapes will have the start of the ogive inside the case when seated to required OAL.

rcmodel has the correct answer, yes and no.

Just look at the shape of 357sig factory loads and you will see what type of bullet could work in 357sig.

Even when you find a bullet that will fit and cycle, it still does not mean you can use it. Neck tension is at a premium so you should always make sure you have minimum setback.

Jacketed bullets are better for 357sig due to the velocity, but you can also use plated bullet with the thicker plating.

The only jacketed bullets I have loaded so far are the MG 125gr 357sig JHP's. They also have the 357sig 125gr FMJ bullets, which are used by a lot of reloaders. I have no setback or cycle issues with the MG's.

I am also loading plated bullets, but they do show a bit of copper fouling. I have loaded the RMR 124gr hardcore match plated flat nose bullets, and also Berry's 124gr HBFPTP bullets. Both Berry's and RMR bullets are .356" diameter, which helps preventing setback.

Good luck with the 357sig and be safe.

I agree with what rcmodel said. Another way to put it is, buy a bullet that works well for 357 SIG, and it should also work with 9x19 Parabellum. I have used thousands of the Berry's 124 grain truncated cone plated bullets in 357 SIG with great success.

Are these the normal FP bullets, or the thicker plated HBFPTP bullets?

They are thicker than other brands, and designed specifically for the 357 SIG. They were designed for speeds up to 1500 FPS. I have used several thousand of them and have never seen a problem with the plating coming off or getting worn through in the barrel. Here is the link to this bullet:

As was mentioned by others, bullets for the 357 SIG must have a short ogive so that the short neck can have a full grip on the sides of the bullet
