So my father in law (which is a gunsmith) built a 358 hoosier. Indiana now allows you to hunt deer with it. Im wanting him to build me one, Id like to use a savage action, but having a hard time trying to find just and action, anyone know where I can search for one. In his build he bought a model 11 savage 308, and removed the barrel, setup a 358 barrel and used the remainder of the rifle. Http://www.bobsgunshop.net if anyone is interested in reading about the 358 hoosier, also a video of us firing it this weekend.

Interesting, but why does Indiana have such asinine restrictions on cartridges for hunting deer? Are these restrictions political or do you chalk it up to fools running wild life management?

Boostedtwo,

I don't think Savage sells actions without the rest of the gun. Your best bet to find an action cheap is to gunbroker and find an inexpensive rifle with the correct bolt face.

NCSmitty, this is retorical, so don't bother answering, but why is it foolish to ask for rifle hunters to stick with short range cartridges? Northern Indiana is densely populated, and large parts of the state are flat flat flat, so popping off normal centerfire cartridges can quite literally result in bullets landing in the next county.

I doubt its political. There are huge numbers of hunters here, and some how I don't think the wildlife specialists are fools or antigun. Heck, they just made it legal to hunt with suppressors here. Most of the states I've lived in are shotgun only.

Of course if you just want a reason to cast stones at other states, knock yourself out. There are plenty of other forums.
