.38 GP100?

I know Ruger made these to meet customer requirements for non-magnum duty weapons (security guards, armored car personnel, etc). Other than the barrel stamp change, I am unsure if the cylinder actually has .38 Special chambers, or still has full .357 depth. Enquiring minds want to know.

I'd buy it, been looking for something about that size, more than a snubby, less than a 6.5"

Not very common, a special order gun for customers who wanted a rugged gun without the “magnum” name.
I’d buy one for the collection if I saw one locally .

Stay safe.

Would $639.00 be a fair price for this gun? Comes with box and paperwork, “new old stock”. Supposedly unfired though it does have a faint turn ring on the cylinder.

YES....
Was looking at a police trade in today, sp101 beat up, $565.00 so $640 new old stock would be great!

If same weight as 357 then nah. No rear sight. I'd take my little 637 first. Cant see any appeal.

It does have a rear sight though?

Just checked prices on .38 Special ammo... yikes. $0.60 per for American Eagle round nose.

I recently bought a s&w 65 and only shoot 38 special, 357 is the only caliber that makes my ears ring

If you like it buy it. If you need something more powerful than standard .38 specials that gun would easily handle Buffalo Bore’s close to magnum level +Ps

A gun shop in my area has some used, 3 inch SP101's in 38 special. They were used by the French Rail Police apparently. They want $529. They were asking more when they first got them, 6 months ago

Does anyone know who these 4” fixed sighted .38 only GP100s were built for? Security? Corrections?

I read on another forum that these were overstock from foreign contracts, Of course the person stating this stated it with “authority” which doesn’t mean squat in reality. That was the only place I saw that info. I wouldn’t put a lot of faith in it.
People with little or know knowledge are always spewing out information in forums trying to appear knowledgeable.

I couldn’t find any other info on these .38 GP100s.

I like 38 Special revolvers but I'd prefer it had adjustable sights.

If i stumbled across a fixed sight 38 Special GP100, I probably jump on it.

I have purchased the revolver.

I am incredibly excited. I’ve been out of the double action revolver game for some years now, focusing on autos and black powders.

I am going to get some Safariland Comp III speedloaders for it and diligently practice reloads as well as dry fire practice to help with aim. I don’t at current reload (small apartment no room work a lot) so will need to purchase ammo for it.

But, thankfully I’ve always found dry fire quite effective with revolvers like this. I also plan on getting a box of Speer Gold Dot 135 grain +Ps and might make it my dedicated nightstand gun paired with my Surefire flashlight.

Also, I’ll be needing a nice holster for it. I’m think an LE style thumb break of some kind. An a carrier for the speedloaders too. And I’m going to paint the front sight with orange nail polish as I always do that.

REVOLVERS FOREVER. Look forward to a full review soon guys.
