I have my grandfathers .38 Long Ctg. I am wondering how Old it is? Serial Number on the handle 22937. It says it was made in Spain. I am also wondering what it is worth and How I would go about selling it? It is in need of some expert cleaning, but mechanically seems to be intact. Also has a white/ivory like handle. PLEASE educate me! Thanks

More than likely its a Spanish knock off of a S&W mod 10. Will need pics to be more specific.

Ctg is just an abbreviation for cartridge as part of the caliber stamping, not a model designator.
Value may be about $50, if that high & if you can find anybody who wants it.
Spanish S&W copies varied in quality, there's no collector value, and they were not highly regarded as shooters.
Parts will be difficult if not impossible to find, unless it was made by a "name". Does it have a brand or maker stamped on it anywhere?

As far as selling it goes, you can put an ad in the paper, you can find a local dealer who can put it on consignment for you (display it on his premises & sell it for you if anybody's interested, and take out 10-15 percent of the sale price for doing so), or you can see what a pawn shop might give you for it.

I have seen a couple of those guns that blew up firing standard .38 Special ammo and one that blew firing blanks. I suggest deactivating it and making a display gun out of it, or turning it in on a buyback program. I DO NOT recommend selling it; it the buyer fires it and the result is loss of some miscellaneous parts of his anatomy, you could be found liable for the damage.
