Hi All,

I have a Ruger SP101 3" revolver that I have as an all purpose gun (range, home defense, and CCW for hiking/camping). It's chambered for .357 mag but I only shoot .38sp loads through it. I'd like to try some .38sp 158gr +P lead semi-wadcutter rounds that I've heard about, but i haven't been able to find any online vendors that carry it.

Does anyone know where I can find these loads? Are they still available? I've tested a variety of loads in my gun and the 158 grainers seem to hit point of aim for me.

Thanks.

Midway has 158gr LSWCHP Buffalo Bore ammo in stock. They are out of stock on the Winchester.

Ammoman has Federal 158gr LSWCHP's but you have to buy in 500 round lots though its relatively inexpensive at $149/500 shipping included.

Remington 38+P Lead semi-wadcutter hollow point. mfg code R38S12. Any gunshop worth its salt will have some and I've even seen 'em at WallyWorld.

I use it in my 342 and my SP101 and they both like it. It's a good load in the 357 levergun, too.

has them. I would still get and carry the Remington version, but still get the Buffalo Bore in case you need extra power (they are within safe +P levels, but somehow their velocity is a lot greater...closer to the .357 Mag), but they do have pretty sharp recoil because of the greater velocity. Carry an extra speedloader full of BB.

www.outdoormarksman.com has Remington LSWCHP for $23 and change for a box of fifty, plus shipping. I've done a fair amount of business with them, and find them to be reliable and prompt. I really like their 9mm TMJ reloads.
Cordially,
Jack

I thought I saw this at either thegunsource.com or shootersmart.com, but their online catalog is so hard to search that I am not sure now.

I agree on the Georgia Arms G38D or G38E for just general shooting and plinking. While it would still make a suitable self-defense load, I would try to load the Remington LSWCHP +P version.

$8.00 per 50 ($75/500) and it looks good with clean brass, sharp lead edges.

I bought some Remington Express .38Spl +P 150-gr LSWC for about $30.00/100. Nice stuff, with nickel plated cases and new production. I use it in my Model 442.
