I don't see any in my Lyman 47th.

Anyone have any info on rifle data?

I just picked up a used Marlin 1894 357 mag for $200.

i like my winchester 94 in 357mag. speer#13 has some pages of 357mag for rifle - mostly the same as 357mag revolver loads except of course higher velocities. slower powders should take best advantage of the longer barrel.

158gr jacketed soft point, 14.0 gr of H110 (takes a magnum primer), 1.570 oal, gave me 1510 fps. increasing powder to 14.8gr gave 1555 fps. speer #13 shows a max powder load of 15.5gr.

38spl wad cutters (seated flush) are too short to feed properly in the winchester 94.

You'll love that rifle.
You'll get better responses to your question at www.marlin-talk.com.
Lots of lever guys there with just your info.

I had one back in late '80s. It was a dandy little rifle, but I couldn't use it "legally" to hunt deer with (our law has now changed), so I traded it. (Won it in a pistol match)
For .38 Spl loads, use the +P data for the slower burning powders. H and IMR-4227 with cast bullets worked particularily well for me. I mostly shot lead wadcutters (single loaded, wouldn't feed from magazine) and lots of SWC .38's using rifle with 3x scope to test accuracy of loads intended for handguns.
A good cast SWC-HP bullet will work really well for up to small deer. For bigger deer I would recommend the Bulk Remington 158gr S.P. or 180gr HP with a .357 load.
If you don't handload, the Ga.Arms "DeerStopper" load is as good as it gets in a factory load. Mine chrono'd just under 2,000fps avg. with odd round or two going just at/over 2,000 with the batch given me by Curtis Shipley to "try" out in my .357's. At that time he was using a Sierra 158gr HP, I think he's using the 158gr Hornady XTP now.
That was the "duty" load I carried in my S&W 686 untill my agency switched to the G-22 and started issuing decent ammo. (Winchester 180 Ranger SXT).

.357 Mag in rifle

I converted several 1892 winchesters for my family members to .357 magnums and we all love them for piliking on our family ranch. I also converted a 1880's .310 cadet falling block martini single shot rifle.

We can shoot any 38 or .357 mag loads listed for pistols in them and made up some 2,000fps loads and marked the bottoms of them black as our black bottom loades to not be used in any of our revolvers.

You can work up your own loads and the rifle spits out the pistol loads faster.

Be sure to mark the hot rifle loads for your safety.

I keep looking for bullets and powders of multiple applications (e.g. to serve both in my s&w snub 38spl and the win94 357mag rifle). Am about convinced there is greater chance of finding the holy grail.

Got hold of some west coast 158gr plated round nose. Put these with 5.5gr of power pistol and cci500 primers in 38spl cases. These are in the +P range of 38spl and gave me a beautiful group from the win94 lever gun; about 1150 fps. They are indeed a bit sporty in the snubby (not recommended for continuous +P use).

The same 158gr p-rn with 2.8gr bullseye gives a nice soft load in the snubby, on the slow side at 450fps. BUT THAT HEAVY BULLET DIDN"T MAKE IT ALL THE WAY OUT THE BARREL OF THE WINCHESTER. Don't try that one in a rifle, thank you very much.

You'll really enjoy that Marlin. I got an EMF/Rossi M1892 Short Rifle over the summer and IMO, the .357 is the cat's pajamas as a carbine round. Recoil and noise with full power .357 Mag, 158 grain loads is mild. Shooting standard pressure .38 Specials is like shooting a .22.

Just be careful to clean the chamber well after shooting .38s, especially with lead bullets. You'll get a ring of fouling at the end of the chamber which can cause chambering and extraction problems with .357s.

On the Yahoogroups Backwoodsman list there are several guys who really like .357 rifles. One or two of them put together small game loads with a .360 round ball and light charges of powder. They are accurate enough for head shots on small game out to ~25 yards. Sorry, I don't have specific load data.
