Anyone have a 38 Super Auto on a 1911 platform, if so, how do you like it,
pro's and con's.
Thanks THR members

I owned a Llama .38 super many years ago. Back then, the only factory .38 Super ammo to be found was Remington hollowpoints.

Unfortunately, the Llama was a Jam-O-Matic with the hollowpoints.

Fortunately, Remington also had a full jacket .38acp(not .380acp) load that the pistol shot great.

Probably not the 1911 type you're looking for. Although the Llama was pretty close to a true 1911.

I guess the .38 Super has made a come back. Back in the 1980's it was about dead!

The .38 Super has been popular in shooting games that have a minimum power rule. It can be hot-rodded to just about equal the .45 ACP under the rules -- but it's awfully hard on the gun.

I have a Springfield and a Colt in .38 Super. I love em. :)

All pros if you reload. No cons at all.

Got a Firestorm (Llama made, not quite 1911 clone) in .38 super that is kind of fun. Reliabilty is still being evaluated, but not too awful. It has some possiblities.

My Kimber Pro Carry HD II is a whole other animal. It works very well, has a great trigger and isn't hard on the shooter at all. It's a real joy to shoot.

Rock Island GI model in 38 Super. So far has been a great gun. Pro's are that the gun was relatively cheap and it's another 1911 for my collection. The only con so far has been finding more variety of ammo for it. I'm not set up for reloading so it's whatever factory ammo I can find at the time.

Colt Series 80 .38 super, pleasant to shoot, if it weren't so hard to find now I'd shoot it more often. If you are a 1911 .45 shooter then you will have a good time shooting it. Wish ammo were cheaper also

38 super is a great cartridge..lots of versatility..you can load it really soft or really hot rod it. extremely reliable in the 1911 platform

Thanks guys for all the input, I do reload so ammo would not be a problem.

Am leaning toward the Colt, gotta save up the money now! Can't wait.

Thanks again, Floydster:D

Let me help you with that decision.....
